Brynn had been standing uncomfortably on the door step for nearly fifteen minutes, trying to decide whether she should actually knock or if she should just turn back and go somewhere else.
In all reality, she shouldn't have been at the house in the first place, but she hadn't been able to take being stuck at her own house any longer. Things at the young Slytherin's house were quite tense at the moment, with her parents and younger siblings still mourning the death of their daughter and sister and the constant arguing about whether or not Brynn should be kept home for the upcoming school year. Just as she'd been for the past two years, her mother was firmly against the idea, and felt as if Eillyn's recent fate only added to her cause. Brynn on the other hand, was more determined than ever to return to Hogwarts. She was finally starting to find her place in the school, and finally opening up to a couple of people, which was something she hadn't done since she was eight years old. But the more they argued, the more firm her mother became on her stance, and it was becoming obvious that Brynn's tricks from the previous two years were not going to work this time around. Her mother clearly expected her to give up, but Brynn figured that if her parents wouldn't take her to the train station, she'd just run away and take herself.
So she'd gone for a test run. She'd theorized about running away for several weeks, then planned it for several more before finally feeling confident enough to pull it off. Deciding on the destination was definitely the hardest part, but in the end she decided on Brietta's house, if only because she couldn't think of anywhere else to go. She'd left her house at four thirty in the morning, after stealing some money from her mother's purse, and boarded the earliest train towards the Isle of Wight. Six and a half hours, several train switches, two bus rides, and a ferry later, she finally made it to the island. It hadn't taken her long to walk to her schoolmate's house, but as soon as she'd reached the door she was instantly filled with worry. Though she was easily the person Brynn had grown closest to during her years at Hogwarts, the ginger was unsure how the other girl felt about her. What if Brietta didn't want Brynn to be at her house? What if she wasn't even home? Worse, what if Brietta's parents answered the door and questioned her, then made her go back home?
Maybe it was just better that she leave anyway. Brynn turned around and started walking away from the house, but she only made it a few step before stopping and turning around. Why should she go home already? She'd come all this way to talk to her . . . well, to talk to Brietta (and to prove a point, but she'd already done that), and even if Brietta turned her away, at least she could say she'd been brave enough to try. But on the other hand, parents were scary and she'd rather not have to deal with any. The ginger paced in front of the door several times before finally making a decision. She turned back to the door and, after taking a deep breath, gave a the door a sharp knock.
