Drumming her fingers lazily on the end-table, Maja watched the passers-by from her roost, nestled in an exquisitely comfortable armchair in the visitor’s lobby. She was visiting Elias for the weekend, and as usual her brother’s last meeting of the day was running late. She didn’t mind, though. The youngest Dörfler had been productive enough early in the week (and over the prior weekend) that she’d earned that Friday afternoon off, and so she had opted to leave for London early rather than wait until dinner. More often than not it was easiest to meet Elias at the Ministry and so here she was, sipping a steaming mug of oolong tea and people-watching.
The relative monotony was broken, however, when a dark-haired young man strode past her a few feet away – quickly followed by a soft
slap of something hitting the floor, with characteristic sort of jangle to it that suggested metal clinking together. Maja’s ears pricked at the sound and she immediately glanced up to see what had fallen. A coin-purse, it seemed.
‘How careless,’ was the first thought that came to her mind, unbidden. The Klyk Vampira was a tough critic more often than not. And yet, she wouldn’t feel quite right allowing the man to walk away, hapless…
“Sir!” she called to the man’s quickly-retreating back – but he apparently hadn’t heard in his haste to get to the lifts. Maja inhaled again, but stopped short. She
could call out again, but it was unlikely to have any more of an effect than her first attempt. Furthermore, she wasn’t particularly keen on hollering across the lobby and making a scene for it.
Her blue-gray eyes flicked from the small purse on the ground to the dark-haired man and back again. Ambitious and self-serving as she could be, Maja Dörfler was most assuredly
not a thief. And while not exactly the altruistic type, she wasn’t incapable of a kind gesture every now and then. Could she catch him up in time? She had long legs, and the lifts were notoriously slow…
With a small huff of indignation upon making her decision, she placed her still-warm teacup on the end-table, rose quickly to her feet, leaned down to pluck up the money in-stride, – her low heels clicking smartly on the marble floor – and reached him just as the lift doors began to open.
Opting for the more direct route this time, the brunette reached out a manicured hand and gave the back of his shirt a brisk tug.
That got his attention well enough; he whipped around suddenly, and the German witch was momentarily taken aback by how quickly he had reacted. Maja blinked.
“You dropped this,” she informed him, holding out the object in question and tilting her head towards where she had been sitting. Her English was quite good, though not without accent.
“Just there. Tried to catch you then, but I don’t think you heard.”
Let me know if you want anything changed @Tulie ! <33
