When Cosimo had heard "party" this really wasn't what he'd been thinking of.
The Marconis were rich and decadent. They were a crime family, but that didn't mean they held their events in dingy shops or tattoo parlours; they were rich enough to be able to do better. Today, though, things were very toned down. The venue was boring; just someone's house. It was nice enough but it wasn't a mansion or anything. It didn't even have a pool. For a one hundred and twenty seventh birthday party, Cosimo thought it was kind of tame and boring. Secretly, he swore to make sure his own party at this age was absolutely pumping.
They were talking about doing group activities now. There were two groups, and apparently all of the younger people in the family were in the new one. Please add me to the new group he thought silently.
The teenager leaned against a wall in the back of the house, watching some of his family members drink glasses of champagne and have subdued conversations about things like business and jazz. Cosimo wanted to change the song to something he could dance to. His mother had organised this whole special permissions thing with his school so he could spend the weekend with family, but he didn't even know for sure that he was related to the old lady whose birthday it was. A part of him had half a mind to sneak into the back somewhere and change his face to impersonate one of his family members. Why shouldn't he have a little fun? Just because everyone else looked like they were at a funeral rather than a party...
