[TTD] Make me a match [Elizabeth]

Sober Trey was pretty used to dealing with the fallout of drunk Trey's actions.  Ranging from mildly annoying to ridiculous and hilarious, there were usually no repercussions that she couldn’t talk her way out of or throw money at until it they went away.  However, this was something new.  “Matchmaking?”  The young witch mused out loud to her empty hotel room.  “What on earth possessed me to sign up with a matchmaking service?”  She sighed and frowned at the letter in her hand.  Rolling over on her back, she held it up to the ceiling light as though that would make it make more sense.  Trey would vehemently protest any suggestion that she was lonely.  She was perfectly happy with her life (right?) and not at all interested in trying to find a companion.  Ultimately she blamed Piers for this situation.  It was his stupid fault she had even dragged her butt back to London at all, a place where she couldn’t bear to be unless she was pretty much blackout drunk at all times.  She had only come to visit his stupid ass after he'd gotten hurt.  No one could blame her for getting wasted.

The whole ‘lonely hearts’ looking for a soul mate thing was a bit much though.  Again she decided she could blame Piers for this.  Him and his bloody Jane.  She was happy that her friend had finally gotten the girl he had been pining over for most of his life – and was engaged to marry her, no less!  It was pretty freaking adorable all things considered.  Even now with Piers new situation.  She really hoped everything worked out for them, despite... Trey pushed away any thoughts about his condition (they made her want to start drinking again).  It was hard to admit but a part of her was bitter that he’d gained a loving partner.  Misery loves company, she supposed.  But she didn't really need him, nor anyone else.  Trey was just fine on her own.

On reflection she could understand how maybe maybe her head had gotten messed up enough to think that a matchmaking service was a good idea.  But just because drunk Trey had been all for it, that didn’t mean that sober Trey had to follow through.  However…  She took another look at the letter.  There was apparently a mixer tonight, in just a few hours, and it boasted a full buffet.  Well, a girl needed to eat, didn’t she?  And it was conveniently taking place in the lobby restaurant so she didn’t even have to go far.  She drummed her fingers on the piece of parchment as she thought it through.  What the hell? Why not?!  Trey rolled out of bed and began to dig through her bag for a suitable outfit.

When she got down to the restaurant and signed in, one of the assistants helpfully pinned a badge emblazoned with a big blue star to the front of her dress.  They explained that the person inside wearing the matching badge was who they had determined to be her best potential partner.  Trey snorted in derision at the concept but was admittedly curious.  What kind of person did their great match-making formula think she should be with?  She went by the bar first and ordered herself a strawberry daiquiri before making her way around the crowd.  There were a variety of people of varying levels of attractiveness and apparent intelligence.  No one particularly caught her eye.  Until...

“Oh, this is brilliant!”  Trey laughed loudly before approaching a seemingly delicate woman with big blue-grey eyes.  She pointed between the badges on their respective chests.  “Hey, apparently these mean we’re soul mates!”  It seemed obvious to Trey that there had been some kind of mix up.  However, she wasn't going to immediately blame the organisers; for all the young witch knew, she might have filled in her questionnaire as though she was a guy.  You couldn’t put anything past drunk Trey.  Still, at this point she was willing to play along – for shits and giggles.  She looked her ‘partner’ up and down.  “You’re cute.”  Trey added with a smile.  "Can I buy you a drink?"

Elizabeth was getting tired of this restless hunt for comfort. If finding a job wasn't in the cards for her then finding a mate was. Someone worthy of the lap of luxury she wished for. She wanted to be spiled and treated like a queen. That's all that mattered to the young witch being worshipped. Though going through a matchmaking system was certainly not her first choice of going about this. Still, she decided to give it a try who knows maybe fate had been looking out for her and Mr right was waiting for her here. It was better to try and fail than not try after all anyways.

When she received her letter about the mixer that was to be hosted for the potential matches Elizabeth was intrigued. They would be given free food from the buffet at the location and though Elizabeth hadn't been food deprived her stomach practically growled at the idea of being able to eat her fill. It wouldn't hurt to overeat once in a while right? It didn't take her much convincing to go the mixer and she made her way there.

She decided to go a bit more subtle with her outfit choice. Men were easy to scare off if a woman wore something strong and with presence. She needed for whatever match she got to not run away in terror of her beauty. So this simple lace sleeved dress would have to do. At the very least the green was a nice subdued color and wouldn't be as striking as a red dress would be. She had an easy time placing the number badge on her dress. Elizabeth was even instructed to try and find the one who had the same number as her as they would be her match. She wasn't so sure of this system it sounded like they probably just put all their names into a bowl and mixed them around before pulling names at random. She doubted there was any real system involved, but giving it the benefit of the doubt she went about the mixer searching for her match.

The people at this gathering were frankly pathetic. She could see why a bunch of these people had signed up for it as none of them even looked like they had any social standing or former training in etiquette. She watched the one guy scarf down food as if it would disappear from his plate any second. "What a pig," Elizabeth said in disgust to herself as she continued to pace the room searching for that one man who was her match.

Eventually, she noticed this one woman heading her way. She was probably lost and searching for her match and thought Elizabeth could be of help. She didn't have time for this as she was searching for her own. Elizabeth was about to turn around and walk away from the woman when she spoke. Wait no it could be. Elizabeth looked at the badge of the woman and her own and they held the same number printed upon them. Great there was a flaw in the system. Elizabeth distinctly remembered she had put she was interested in men and not blonde bimbos in gaudy dresses. Elizabeth about rolled her eyes when the other woman began speaking about how they got matched, but then she started to hit on her.

She had to do her best to suppress a grimace of disgust that wanted to form on her face. Was this woman serious? Did she want Elizabeth as her soulmate? This mixer was going to be more trouble than it was worth that's for sure. Still, she was here and she might as well make the best of a terrible situation. So Elizabeth decided to play along with the woman if anything she might get some entertainment from the other female. Elizabeth folded her arms and responded, "Depends on if you can handle me." This was a challenge to the woman to be it to a drinking contest or see who could get under each other's skin. Either way, this was a game for her now and this woman was now her plaything.

As could be expected, the other woman didn’t seem impressed by their pairing.  Trey wondered if she had been truly hoping to find love at this mixer and felt a little bad if that were the case.  Still, Trey couldn’t help finding the situation funny.  She made no effort to restrain the wide grin that spread across her face at the challenge implied in the other woman’s reply.  Although she seemed a bit haughty, she also clearly had spirit.  Trey liked that.  It pleased her that this woman was not shy or timid, since that meant she would likely to be more fun to hang out with.

“Babe, why would you want anyone to handle you?  You’re not a horse.”  She countered with a smirk.  There was a whole slew of equestrian related innuendo that came to Trey’s mind then but she held it back, not wanting to scare the poor girl off.  Instead she offered a hand politely in introduction.  “I’m Trey.  And I’m probably not the type of companion you wanted to be saddled with”, the young witch hadn’t been able to help herself, “but all the same – tequila?”  With a chuckle and a playful flick of her hair, Trey made her way over to the bar and started ordering shots.  As they were provided by the bartender, she lined them up on the counter equally distributed to either side of a salt shaker and a bowl of lime wedges.  Her new friend could of course just order herself something different if she wanted but Trey was hoping that she’d have the nerve to join in.

“So,” Trey enquired mildly as she picked up her first shot and held it ready, “if I’m not your dream girl…  who were you hoping to meet?  Someone tall, dark and handsome?”  Having little to no interest herself in becoming attached to another person, the topics of romance and love were ones that Trey usually avoided.  However, it seemed fitting for the context and she was admittedly a little curious to know what a classy girl like Elizabeth was looking for in a place like this.  Trey was no detective but could hazard a guess at the other woman’s background.  There was a certain way that upper-class Purebloods tended to hold themselves (as though their heads would fall off if they didn’t hold them high enough in the air).  While Trey waited for an answer, she tossed back the shot and took a hit of salt and lime.  She smiled.  There was nothing quite so pleasantly numbing as the burn of alcohol.
