@Ariana Laurier "
Good one--"
The words huffed from the male's lips as he picked himself up from the ground, shaking off debris from his robe and brushing back an unruly mop of tousled brown hair which was normally so perfectly coiffed. That pillar at his back, now destroyed, had taken the brunt of her attack, but Ariana had still caused the wizard to be knocked off balance in his haste to avoid it. A little out of breath now, heart thumping, all he could hear just then was that rushing sound in the ears. These training exercises were always a thrill in their own right-- necessary to keep them primed and ready to go, certainly, though only to an extent. And that was where the real problem laid: it was only farce. Despite being taken off his feet, Farlane did not have that same sense of '
holy fucking shit, I could have died' sensation that could cause his limbs to go weak and numb with true fear. Ultimately, they were not actually trying to off one another here.
"Let's kick this up a notch," Farlane said then, eyes trained on hers as he stepped to the side once, twice, three times... Slowly circling the young witch the way a predator might as it considered its next approach of the prey. "I just
murdered your loved one--" the situation was hypothetical, of course, as he had done no such thing, but was creating a scenario that would hopefully incite the most emotion to goad Ariana into rougher action, "--snuffed them out, like some worthless bug. Worse still, their body is now my puppet, and I'm making their lifeless figure dance because I think it's
funny." All the while, the wizard continued his steps, carefully avoiding the rubble on the floor caused from their previous spells. Other than the fact he was methodically circling her, Farlane did not appear ready to strike-- both arms were at his sides, one hand clutching his wand. "I'm
glad they're gone, you can practically see the joy and giddiness on my face over what I've done. You know I'll do it again. I'll
keep doing it. I'll do it to you next."
Farlane became an Auror to help others, especially those who could not help themselves. After going through bullying, and the horrors of Lord Voldemort's reach, the young man took it all quite seriously. Indeed, the male had not had much of a life since leaving Hogwarts simply because the majority of his time was spent in devotion to perfecting wandwork and incantations, and had every intention to tackle the most difficult ability of wandless magic too. This was not simply a practice for him; it was a simulation of what could be a very real possibility. All of them had seen and gone through some traumatic stuff in very recent years, and he for one was not about to get caught off guard again. Nor would he be helpless. And if he could assist his friend into becoming the best Auror she could possibly be, then he was willing to cross some boundaries to make it happen.
It wasn't their first practice together, after all. She knew full well how seriously he took it. Each time, they brought something new to the table.
Without warning, Farlane raised his wand as a jet of green burst from its tip and straight for Ariana -- this spell in no way friendly or safe.
