Valerian had been made mousquetaire. This bothered Severin on an emotional level. Should it? Probably not. Valerian was a great student. He was younger than him, yes, but Severin had been through his troubled times. He had been demoted as quidditch captain. He had been near-expelled on several occasions. The idea that he, himself, could ever become mousquetaire was laughable at best. Even so, he resented his brother for reaching this goal that Severin, honestly, had never even aspired to. He hated seeing his little brother succeed. Valerian was such a twit.
Severin had been doing his best to avoid his majesty, who seemed to be enjoying the power of his position. Instead, he had taken up a poor habit of smoking behind the school to calm his nerves. While it wasn’t quite as calming as the strange cigarettes he smoked with Circe and her friends, he found himself calmed by it. He knew it was a vice, but of all vices surely there were worse—right?
Things had been complicated. Between becoming co-captain for Elsa for quidditch and watching his brother outside him the same way Mylene had always outshined him, Severin was ready to graduate and make something of himself. He wondered what Elsa planned for post-graduation and if the two would know each other after school. At this rate, they wouldn’t even continue to be friends, and all things aside, he really liked her.
He flicked the ash on the ground, not noticing the younger student rounding the corner. When he finally did, his yes narrowed. “Oh wonderful, it’s you.†He groaned, eye rolling. He didn’t even bother to put his cigarette out, taking a long drag and exhaling in his brother’s face.
