“Liaaaa, take me on the roller coaster next!†Hyacinth said, awed be everything she was seeing and eager to keep going. A rambunctious young girl already, Hyacinth was easily excitable when it came to things like fairs and festivals. She loved winter, too, as much as she loved every season for its own unique charm. She thought the ice sculptures and kiosks were fun for shopping, and had picked up some trinkets for her friends at school with the pocket-money her mother had given her for the trip. While she didn’t love the ice cold weather—she preferred wearing loose clothing and rarely trousers—she loved a chance to see Winter in its glory. It wasn’t just Christmassy here, it was an ice wonderland that felt like it was made of diamonds. She was excited to see it all.
Of course, the area that excited her most were the rides. As a pureblood witch, she had limited experience with fair rides and things of the like, and this was a first for her. She had already done sight-seeing on the ferris wheel with Azalea, and was now looking forward to the roller-coaster, with no idea how sick she might feel afterwards and no cares to think of. Her live was, at the present moment, going pretty swell. There were always cute boys to stress over, and O.W.L.s coming up at the end of the year, but for now she was content, happy, and eager to spend quality time with her sister away from her parents. She felt like a true grown up, getting to have slumber parties with the older girl every night. Azalea let her eat pizza and bake cookies at midnight. It was a dream come true being away.
Home life had improved for Hyacinth since Iris and Cassia were wed, but sometimes home was lonley now. She didn’t miss being tormented by her elder sister, but she missed having someone to bother and talk to—as chatty as she could be. “Everything is so beautiful here, I sure hope my friends got to come, too… othrwise they may be jealous.†She worried about that a little bit. Her friends were different from her, really, at least most of them. They didn’t sometimes have the things Hyacinth had if they were kind, and if they did have what she had they were often jealous and protective of it. Hyacinth still had no idea about money and its power in the world. She was too naïve to consider that the free giving of wealth would be controversial and that families didn’t always have her luxuries. Some friends families were too proud to take what she wished so hard she could give. She wanted all of her friends to have nice treasures and the ability to buy them themselves. Azalea seemed to know more than Hyacinth on this matter, but seemed to have the same sort of giving heart—less naïve, but just as kind.
Not only were they celebrating the season, this was also partially to properly celebrate her being named Quidditch Captain for this school year. She was worried she might not lead her team to victory, but she tried very hard and worked very hard with her team. She was supportive and kind to her teammates, but maybe a little soft on the competition. She was a nurturer, through and through. She thought kindness made for good leadership, however, and was proud of what she’d accomplished. Clearly, Azalea was proud of her too.
