"I cannot be held liable for my actions when under the influence of butterbeer, Killian" the Gryffindor grumbled, what a cheap bloody trick, really. To lull her into a false sense of security before the inevitable plotting commenced. She'd been blindsided. Unprepared, nay betrayed. By one of her very own!

"I'm begging you, as a friend, please." she said, grey eyes wide and pleading, as she ducked behind him further in an effort to melt herself into the surrounding foliage. Mavis had gotten her into this mess, the least her boyfriend could do was get her out of it. "I love your girlfriend dearly but she's a menace. You don't know what its like to actually live with her and Nola." she added feeling utterly pathetic about the whole thing.

How Mavis had convinced Duncan to go on a random date with her, she wasn't certain. Maybe he'd been cursed, somehow, and she really needed to lay off the dark thoughts. (Weren't Slytherin's allergic to Gryffindors? That was a rule of some sort, right?) Its not like she was particularly approachable, half the time. All of her interactions with boys tended to vary in the range from 'loaded sarcastic silence' to 'annoyed incomprehensible growling'. Mostly. She supposed she was a bit less harsh on the lovable idiots she called her housemates. Point was she wasn't charming. "I just need you to glare at him, a little, is all. And maybe walk around with me a bit so he gets the hint." she added, rubbing at her face. She knew Mavis' meant well, considering how sickening her and Ki could be but, well, she just wasn't interested is all.

In her defense, she'd tried to fend him off. Let him off the hook gently, but he'd been a slime and had persisted. "He thinks I'm playing hard to get or something." she said, wrinkling her nose in disgust. As if, buddy. Blech.

"It's just butterbeer, good Lord!" Killian said with a laugh, spinning around as Adara tried to use him as a human shield. ""Sides, you've known them all long enough, you can't be that surprised they took you seriously." Mavis and Nola, romantics even before Mavis and Killian had started dating, seemed to have taken the union as a reason to engineer more of them. Poor Adara, Killian thought as a twig caught on her clothes. He couldn't imagine living with Mavis and Nola, true -- the one sleepover had been chaotic enough.

"What's wrong with Duncan?" Killian asked, shifting slightly so that he was blocking Adara from the view of passerby. "He's, like, fine, for a Slytherin. One of the better ones, really." Killian was fairly neutral on the subject of Duncan, less neutral on the subject of the other boy's friends, but clearly, Mavis had thought there was something there. Or there was potential for something there. Something, anyway.

Killian didn't actually like Duncan all that much.

"Hard to get?" Killian repeated, wrinkling his nose in return. "That's awful misogynistic of him, isn't it?" He frowned, glancing over his shoulder. Ah, well, everybody knew he was with Mavis, right? "You're explaining this to the girls if they ask," he settled on saying, stepping back so Adara could emerge from her new home in the bushes. "Right. Let's go on a vaguely intimidating walk. Should be easy, right? I'm pretty scary looking." A dry, sarcastic joke, but Killian's expression was warm.

Just butterbeer? Nothing was just anything but she bit her protests back and kept control of the argument that was poised on the tip of her tongue. "I should have known better." she admitted, wincing, as she ran a hand through her hair. "C'mon Ki!" she pleaded, bitting her lip.

"He's alright? I just don't-" she paused trying to find the words. It felt wrong to say she didn't like him but her resistance mainly stemmed from not wanting to submit to something she'd had zero input into arranging. It had felt more like something borne out of pity than anything else and it made her bristle. Out of everyone it was strange that they chose Duncan, too, nevermind the upperclassman had actually agreed. She didn't totally trust it. Plus the fact that he'd seemed to be under the impression that she truly liked him which was... beyond uncomfortable.

"Right?!" she said, her frown becoming more apparent. Out of everything she'd said it shouldn't surprise her that this was what finally seemed to convince him. Ki was good like that, though, and she shot him a grateful smile once he'd agreed. "I take full responsibility." she said seriously, nodding her head a bit. All she really wanted was for Duncan to realize he'd been misinformed. "The scariest. Perfectly intimidating prefect." she agreed, grinning, as she felt like she could finally breathe properly.
