"What was that, Argott?" Anto said, leaning back in his chair, hearing the familiar creak of his chair as he tried to peer around the doorway that the goblin had disappeared through. "And he's gone," the wizard said to himself as he dug his heels in and rolled himself back to his desk and glanced around his desk, trying to replay the grumble his goblin coworker had tossed in his direction before disappearing. A reminder for something..? Anto was still learning Gobbledegook and when grumbled, it was even less intelligible. Rubbing at his dark brows for a moment, he heaved himself out of the chair and stood, hearing his knees crack.
Merlin, he hadn't even realized he spent the last three hours hunched over his desk. How had that happened? He stretched his arms over his head, feeling his back stretch and stifling a yawn at the same time.
He paused the moment the idea struck him and leaned in to squint at the calendar on his wall. Oh! Today was the day that the rather handsome Muggle Liaison Officer had scheduled to pick up all the vault keys for the new muggleborn students that would start at Hogwarts in the next year. Not that he had ever said anything to Fergie, to his face, but it was a bright spot in his otherwise boring day.
Anto pulled the files and heavy keys together, loading up his arms before his shoes hit the golden tiles of the corridor that lead to the main lobby. Argott pointed a gnarled finger in the direction of one of the desks and Anto hastened his steps, turning the corner to see a wizard in Ministry robes and stopped short.
"You're not
Fergie," Anto mumbled and then felt his cheeks get hot. "I mean, err, hey, are you here for the muggleborn keys?"
