Name: Billie
Character name: Fabien Álvarez
Feature you are applying for: Elementalism -> Madin -> Discipuli

Let's start with Fabien's basic knowledge. Fabien is a second year at Hogwarts, hopeful in the Hufflepuff house. He was born in October, so he'll be thirteen soon. Despite this, Fabien still acts like an eleven year old, especially in the company of his best friend and closest cousin, Tori Cooper, a fellow second year and Hufflepuff. It is important to know that while Fabien is a Scorpio sign, he shows no signs of vindictiveness, ideals of revenge or mysterious natures. This could, if proven significant in his plot lines, change.

The first thing I'd like to point out with Fabien is his soul: he is a genuinely kind soul, never fitting truly into "one box" but in multiple boxes all at once. He is eager to please, and even more eager to make and maintain friendships. Friendships are an important aspect to understanding Fabien -- he grew up in a family, not only his immediate family, but his entire family, as a close knit connection. He thrives on the ability to find, meet and talk to friends, regardless of how long they've been apart. He absolutely thrives on the need to be sociable, and he'll often talk a mile a minute out of excited natures just to talk with friends or even family. Close friends do become his family, and once someone is in that box, it's hard for him to see any other way.

The good thing about this with Fabien is that he never sees the faults in others, not even of himself. He never sees "bad people" as that -- and he'll give everyone three, four, sometimes up to ten chances to "fix mistakes" or to "try again." Fabien sees weaknesses and mistakes as learning opportunities to grow as a person, and to grow in a friendship. Fabien, despite what his parents tell him, is far too trustworthy -- he's so trustworthy that, by default, he'll trust even the weirdest, darkest people in the universe. By doing this, his trustworthy ideals are often manipulated (and, in the long run, makes it easier for him to get used for various purposes, both good and bad). But, despite this, that's one of the things that Fabien hates: being used and manipulated. He's a little blind to the fact that he's often used this way, and when he realizes it, he gets unnaturally angry. He'll ignore whomever has been manipulating him, but give it a few days: he'll forgive them and the process will start over. That's one of the beautiful things about Fabien: he is forgiving to a fault that even if he gets hurt, he never thinks about his own feelings.

One of the beautiful things about Fabien, too, is his heart and dedication. Fabien excels in Potions and Herbology, and alike his older sister, Fabien wishes to harness those skills and help people in a medical sense. Maybe, for example, not as a mediwizard, but perhaps as a potioneer, or medicine man. Fabien's heart to helping people, despite good or bad, is the biggest strength of his. He loves helping others; whether it's with chores, homework or just general life things, he'll help. He doesn't even need to be asked. Fabe is sensitive to how other people feel, and never -- if rarely -- do things to hurt others or to make them feel lesser than they are.

Despite Fabien's love for learning, he isn't the smartest or the quickest learner. It takes him months to years to learn the basics that friends his similar age know how to do. This isn't because Fabien is stupid -- no, he's just not the most interested in school work. Rather, he'd breeze through learning about cultures, histories and languages via hands on experience such as travel to really get that knowledge. The more hands on a class is, the quicker Fabien will learn. Casting spells isn't necessarily the easiest for him, especially when it comes to classes such as Defense Against the Dark Arts in which sometimes dueling is necessary.

I think it's important to focus not on my muse for a moment, but on myself. This part is critical to understanding exactly why I want this special feature, and how I will utilize it to my fullest.

As a mun / driver / whatever you want to call it, and as an avid story teller, I'm always looking for ways to expand on my abilities to write. The ideals behind playing such a mystical type of special feature such as an Elemental gives me a freedom to explore both my writing style, and to challenge myself as a write. I am always looking for a new way of challenging myself, and my fellow writers, by expanding outside of my box. I have played assassins; I have played the sickly-sweet bad boy; I have played a murderer who can't see straight even though he thinks he is straight. But the thing is, I have never played a muse with the ability of an element.

By writing outside of my comfort zone, I can harness the ability to become a better role player, and a better writer in general. It also allows me to make mistakes, and to learn from those mistakes. By creating mistakes, even little ones, I am able to learn, and am able to dedicate myself to becoming better. That's all we want in role playing, anyways, right? To become better. To have fun. To make ourselves different by pushing our comfort zones, and break out of our boxes?

Lastly, I know I'm still relatively new, just ending my third week here on Magical Hogwarts (as I write this, that is). Therefore, by allowing a special feature to grace my relatively small character collection (whether Fabien will be my second character or my third is unknown at this moment), it will give me more opportunities to plot outside of the several people I've already plotted with. I like to expand my writing abilities to not just stagnate into one or two little "groups" of people, but at least write with everyone once or twice, just to say that we've had a connection. By having an Elemental, I'd be able to role play with people from other houses, as well as adults that I wouldn't be able to do until Christmas break in game, or if you guys do another summer program at Academy Athena.

As Fabien becomes an "established" character, and equally, becomes more involved with other people, these plots will expand, and become more concrete. Without mentioning a bajillion and a half names or many other characters (except for the ones that will eventually play a key part in Fabien's developments), this is a good, solid outline of future plots and future development that I would love to do with Fabien:

First off, there is the matter of his discovery. Fabien has only just started his second year of Hogwarts, which gives him plenty of years to become discovered. Ideally, I'd like Fabien to be discovered no later than the middle to end of his year at Hogwarts -- anywhere between Christmas break and May of 2001. Leading up to his discovered, Fabien's grades will start to steady dwindle, especially in classes such as Transfiguration, which he is extremely good at. His wand won't stop working completely (the magic will dwindle, obviously, once he's authentically started his training as an Elemental), but the magic will start to become harder for him to cast, and will often fail more than not.1 This will lead Emmett Markham into aiding him in trying to figure out what's wrong. It will finally be Linnet Willowsong2, an older Hufflepuff and a fellow Madin Elemental, who will realize that Fabien is, indeed, an Elemental.

This alone will not stop. This will allow Fabien to grow as a person, and be more open with himself. This will trigger a potential character development between Fabien and the way he looks at magic, his family, his friends, and the world. He will grow to idolize almost all Elementals whom are older than him, and will crave the knowledge to read more, to practice and to try harder. By doing this, he is triggering an act of self discovery. This act of self discovery is absolutely important, because it will show Fabien that he is not "weird" or "awkward" but unique, and he will happily embrace this with all of his heart, and will try to get others to believe it himself. This will prove vital when it comes to his view on the world, as he will be more open and accepting to other people's faults (while he is already pretty accepting about things, there are things he still cannot see or understand, and this will open a whole new world to him), and to offer sympathy and empathy about what is can or can't be.3

As Fabien grows into his new Elemental power, he will absolutely adore learning about it. This will spark conversations with not only family, but with other Elementals that will gain his pique and interest, and will gradually turn into a growth of independence. With the discovery and knowledge of Elementals outside of just the particular one that he has, he will be armed with the knowledge that there are more than just what he sees, and that people harbor more than just one or two little things. He will actively try to befriend anyone and everyone of Elemental status, whether Madin or not. He will go out of his way to make strong friendships with people. One of these friendships will, eventually after his own discovery, be Hinterikki Peura4, a current first year from Durmstrang. This is going to be a vital friendship down the line for Fabien, as it will cross language barriers, schools, and distance, and will become one of his best and trusted friends.

1 This plot with his wand does not involve magic actually stopping from working, as Fabien is undiscovered. In fact, it is quite the opposite. As Fabien's first year is all basic spells and basic learnings, he is a pro at being able to master this work, especially wand work. As second year progresses, especially in Transfiguration, which is one of her better classes, his work will go from outstanding to poor. This is because the more complex the spells become, the harder it is for Fabien to cast. As a result, as Fabien realizes that he is an elemental, especially after his discovery, he will look for newer, more creative ways to pass his classes.

2 One of the things that Fabien is going to do with Linnet is find her as a role model. Fabien easily idolizes people, mostly his older sister, Taylor, so having someone outside of his family to idolize will be absolutely perfect for him. Likewise, with Linnet, Fabien will be able to ask about Elemental situations, as well as go to her for guidance, even if it's just a general "I can't get it, please try and help me?" type of thing. Furthermore, Linnet and Fabien will create a strong friendship that will not end at the end of the 2000-2001 school year, but will continue via owls and the occasional meet up once Linnet graduates.

3 One of the ideas I would love to play would be a continuation on the rogue plot, whether or not it happens. If it happens during October, which probably wouldn't affect any of the Hogwarts students because of the dome, there is still ample opportunity for someone to kidnap Fabien. Since he'll be discovered after the plot is set, he will still be fresh-faced and eager to please, and would go willingly with almost anyone if they even said that they were an Elemental. This will make Fabien question himself, slightly, on the idealism of trust and loyalty, although he wouldn't think more than this. This can further span to an act of dark self discovery in which Fabien learns more about the darker parts of himself. This would be a gradual difference, a gradual change in his persona.

... Bonus points if everything seemingly stays the same in Fabien's life, but slight changes are apparent or happen at once. For example, he can still go to school (because all his friends), but get owls from the person who kidnapped him / got into his head telling him and reminding him of his place, where he belongs. I really hope to one day lead him down a dark hole of self-destruction, in hopes that this will grow him as a person, and cut out some of the stupid parts of his personality that he has.

4 Ikki Peura is important to plot with because he and Fabien will, after meeting during the summer somehow (probably either at Inverness or at Academy Athena), they will bond. They are both in a similar situation (first/second year age range), be new to the Elemental power of Madin at roughly the same time, and will share similar characteristics. It is equally important to note that Fabien will learn Finnish just to communicate with his new best friend, while also attempting to visit as often as he can. This also opens up opportunity to meet other Elementals, adults and students from around the world that he wouldn't meet anywhere else. In the long run, Fabien and Ikki are going to plan an International Study Abroad between Hogwarts and Durmstrang and try to get it up (at one point, but nowhere near the close future), as well as follow their dreams together.

By befriending Ikki, Fabien will become more confident and more independent within himself, and be able to feel comfortable stepping more and more outside of his comfort zone. He will also be able to hone and practice his elemental spells with a friend who is similar in stage alongside him once they've become friends, and this will make Fabien more dedicated and more practiced to wanting to better himself and his ability.

RP sample using the feature: A sigh of disappointment escaped the thirteen year old's mouth, and a look of irritation crossed his face. Stormy grey eyes studied the palm of his hand for a long moment, before it turned over and they studied the backside. It was as if Fabien was staring at an alien of a hand; not his own, but of someone else's. It was as foreign as another country was, or someone who didn't speak English in the United Kingdom was. For a long moment that seemed to drag on, Fabien seemed to not realize that his hand wasn't going to change, even though everything around him was. Another labored, heartfelt sigh escaped the soft lips before they thinned out, becoming two straight, little lines against the pale skin and underneath the bridge of a freckled nose. What was he doing wrong? Why couldn't he do it? Other people did it so easily. Then again, these other people had years upon years of experience and training and what was it with him? He was just starting. He was just learning. But even then, it was a little frustrating.

"Let's try it again," Fabien spoke to nobody besides himself. His voice was cool and collected, despite the agitation that he felt. He didn't feel this frustrated since he realized his wand no longer worked like it did with the more complex spells in Transfiguration, and that he was, most likely, going to fail that class. He knew it was impossible to fail if he put his mind to it, but it was still apparent. It was still at the back of his head. He worked too hard to try and fix something of himself, but he knew that it was really only a matter of time. "Slow and steady. This isn't a race, and this will happen. Do not judge, for he who judges oft fails.

"Madin."

He said the word with such dictation and such power and such fluidity that the word seamlessly rolled off of his tongue, out of his mouth, and into the air. But even though he had felt like he was solid as he spoke, nothing happened. No plants started to grow, and the ground didn't shake. He could barely get the spell to work, even with his hardest effort put into it. Another look of irritation crossed the usually happy face, and his head tilted, hair falling slightly into his eyes. What did he do now? How did he go about it? Maybe there was something he was missing. Maybe there was something lacking -- it was like a potion, he realized. He didn't read about everything he needed, so he must have been forgetting something.

And it was then that Fabien decided that he he would need to find someone to talk to about this situation. His face lit up, and he straightened himself to his awkward teenage height. Hands brushed eagerly through his hair and he looked around. Perhaps trying it once more wouldn't hurt. He could always say he tried multiple times -- plus, who liked to give up. With his renewed effort and thought process, he attempted it again. Once again, the words slipped from between his lips like two perfectly placed syllables, "Madin."

Again, Fabien waited with bated breath, hoping something -- anything -- would happen. Again, there was no little plants that sprouted underneath the clove of his hand, and the earth didn't miraculously shake and tumble with fear. Perhaps he wasn't cut out for this. Perhaps they even lied to him when they said he was an Elemental. After all, why would they say he could do this, but clearly, he couldn't.

Name: Ταεδ
Character Name: Cameryn Lyall White [span style="display:none;"]~ faceclaim Valentina Lyapina, Amanda Tapping[/span]
Feature you are applying for: Necromanced / Regenerated

[img style="width:350px;"]http://fontmeme.com/embed.php?text=Know%20Thy%20Enemy&name=DAEMONES.ttf&size=30&style_color=2E8B57[/img]

Cameryn Lyall White was born in 746 ᴀᴅ, the eldest twin of Carbrey Tàmhas White and the only daughter of Eudard and Slàine White. This was long before the Statute of Secrecy had even been heard of, and the White family were primarily practitioners of healing magic that lived from Gododdin down to Northumbria, and helped their Muggle neighbours who were sick and injured. But even from a young age Cameryn was interested in bigger and darker things. By the time she was 30 years of age she was an accomplished necromancer, and had left her family's stead near Monkchester (Newcastle-upon-Tyne) in favour of returning to their family's ancestral ground in the Monadh Ruadh (now the Cairngorm Mountains) of the kingdom of Gododdin; by the time she was 40 she was feared. She believed that wizardkind should be an elite and ruling class rather than a muffled minority, and amassed a number of acolytes and other followers, primarily unmarried women like herself. She sought to animate the dead of the wizards and witches of the Brythionic kingdoms. When her father tried to reason with her, she killed him immediately, and used the opportunity to create a Horcrux based on the writings of Herpo the Foul.

Cameryn's plan was to frighten all of the Brythionic kingdoms into submission, and then with their combined forces march onto the Anglian kingdoms called the Heptarchy that collectively ruled the southeastern half of the island. When King Offa of Mercia died in July of 796, she began to move her gathered followers south from Gododdin into the former kingdom of Rheged (which is now southern Scotland and northern England), so that could pass off her atrocities as part of the Viking invasion of the west coast of the island. Upon learning of Cameryn's approach, the Thane of Cumbria, under the authority of King Eardwulf of Northumbria, called in 798 for the assistance of Cynan ap Rhodri, the newly crowned king of Gwynedd (kingdom of northern Wales) and a descendant of wizards himself.

[span style="display:none;"]Cynan amassed the witches and wizards of his subjects and sailed north across the Muir Èireann (Irish Sea), stopping off at the Ynys Manaw (Isle of Man) where he made an alliance with Elidyr Hen and recruited many of their own wizards while betrothing his daughter Ethyllt to Elidyr's son Gwriad. He then sailed up the Duddon Estuary and back down the Walney Channel, and landed at the settlement of Hietun (now Hawcoat, Barrow-in-Furness).[/span] Over the next two years Cynan and Cameryn's forces manoeuvred around each other, facing each other a few times in combat but always alongside their supporters. During one such fleeting encounter, Cameryn managed to Accio some of Cynan's blood and store it. Finally the war culminated in a personal duel between the two in 800 that resulted in Cameryn's death. Her body was returned to her twin brother, who took it back up to Gododdin and buried her on the family plot. This was not, however, the end of the wily necromancer.

Always thinking ahead, Cameryn had prepared a hex bag before facing Cynan, and had inserted it into her own ribs. This hex bag contained all the necessary ingredients for an old piece of magic called the Regeneration Potion - her father's finger bone, the blood of Cynan, and an eye that one of her acolytes sacrificed to her. By possessing her corpse, and slowly managing to recite the incantation to activate the potion over the time span of twelve centuries, she finally activated the hex bag. As her body was reforming, abruptly, all Magic ceased to exist (May 2000). By the time it finally started working again, the regeneration ritual's interruption had been long enough that Cameryn's new body was that of an 11-year-old girl, not her former 54-year-old woman's body. As she snuck topside, she discovered the wizarding village of Hogsmeade had been built over her family plot.

Using a Disillusionment Charm, Cameryn followed a group of students back to Hogwarts from Hogsmeade and, while the entire school population was having their End of Term feast on the grounds, managed to insert herself in the book of expected new first-years for the fall. She spent the summer in her own crypt getting the use of her old magic back, and then joined the influx of students that arrived late and had a last-minute Sorting Feast in September, when she was Sorted into Ravenclaw House. The ensuing events trapped her with the rest of the Hogwarts population in the Old Magic Seal, and ensured that she would have to limit the first part her vengeance to the underage descendants of Cynan.

[span style="font-size:1.25em;font-weight:900;padding:5px 0px;line-height:1.5em;"]Why Do I Want to Play This[/span]
In all honesty, I've wanted to play out the Hogwarts experience from the beginning for some time, but I didn't want a clichéd first-year student. Every driver wants something that makes their characters special, memorable, unique, whatever. And I have a far more difficult time writing for so-called "normal" witches and wizards than I do for the odd ones out. So when I was thinking of possibilities for a first-year student, I knew that I wanted someone that wasn't as new to the world as everyone thought they were.

A discussion with fellow driver Billie about adoptables led us to some wild theorizing about a necromancer great-aunt of her character Reece White's, since he is Muggleborn but his family history was of purebloods and halfbloods until his great-grandfather was born a Squib in 1897. The original idea was that this necromancer, or her ghost, would possess a first-year student and live out the Hogwarts life in that manner. There were a lot of problems with it, however, not the least of which was that the student and the ghost would technically be separate entities - did I need to apply for two characters, or did I need to have another driver run the student, and if that was the case how would we interact and who would actually control the student's body?

The solution of combining Horcrux (which had been invented many centuries earlier by Herpo the Foul and must have been practised enough that books were written containing its crafting) with the Regeneration Potion (which Voldemort said was "an old piece of dark magic") seemed like a reasonable alternative. Writing the character to be limited by a flaw in either the Horcrux, the regeneration ritual, or magic itself (or a combination of the three) meant that I could have this very old character being returned to the centre stage without being superpowered and unrealistic (as a Harry Potter site defines "unrealistic"). It also still allows me to play out the necromancer character, which is an archetype I haven't yet been able to thread on Magical Hogwarts.

[span style="font-size:1.25em;font-weight:900;padding:5px 0px;line-height:1.5em;"]What Does the Feature Entail[/span]
In her "first" life, Cameryn was not only a talented witch but also an accomplished Necromancer, which meant she practised the Dark Art of raising the dead - not bringing them "back to life," but at least animating them and having a degree of control over their minds while still using their individual strengths toward a purpose. MH lore also says that necromancers are (perhaps surprisingly) skilled at healing magic, which fits perfectly into the fact that the White family was historically known for such magic - it's just that Cameryn uses not only "Light" magic spells that heal, but also Dark and "unholy" rituals, often involving the exchange of blood. She was also quite adept at large-scale blood rituals that would strengthen her allies or weaken her enemies.

Now in her "second" life, she has acquired a number of side effects from being regenerated; some are good, and some are not so much. Cameryn maintains her extensive knowledge of spell repertoire; however, most of the spells are ones she simply cannot use, due to her decreased age and the limitations of her body to channel magic. She does maintain the same degree of maturity, concentration, and mental control that she had in 800 ᴀᴅ, so in many ways she is ahead of her "peers," and she can also still execute and participate in necromantic rituals that rely more on blood than wand power. However as a reanimated being, Cameryn can herself be influenced by another necromancer; an extremely adept one could actually control her. And as a regenerated body, Cameryn cannot create a new Horcrux because her sole remaining soul piece was consumed in the Regeneration Potion that brought her back to life.

[span style="font-size:1.25em;font-weight:900;padding:5px 0px;line-height:1.5em;"]What is the Endgame[/span]
During the previous summer in her crypt, Cameryn has become painfully aware that far from her dream of witches ruling over Muggles with a combination of power and fear, wizardkind is now even more secreted away than before, and the so-called "governments" of the wizarding world prohibit magic to be performed around Muggles at all, whether for good or ill. A revolution would have to wait until she could accrue more followers, or more power, or even better, leverage. In the meantime, she is both protective and somewhat disapproving of her distant relation Reece, and has decided that she needs to be a good role model for him - and by good, we mean Dark. She will start with him as she works towards making connexions and whispering ideas into people's heads, to remind them that once wizards and witches did not have to hide who they were, and that they deserved far more than their little wizarding villages and secretive schools.

[list style="text-align:justify;"]
  • @Reece White : Reece is, in reality, Cameryn's great36-grand-nephew. Obviously he doesn't know that. Cameryn will be at once hesitant to expose herself to Reece but also drawn to him by the bond of blood. She would like to lead him down a Darker path than he might otherwise take, and will subtly introduce certain things to him as they continue to encounter each other in the corridors and in classes.
  • @Damien Conway : DJ is one of the direct descendants of Cynan ap Rhodri and, as such, he is a target of Cameryn's vengeance. It also infuriates her that Reece is hanging around with him so much. But because he too has Dark magic in his blood, she will avoid direct confrontations; she will continue to try and hurt or kill him indirectly or coerce others into helping her.
Because I would be playing both characters, I will be limiting Cameryn's interaction with DJ to exclusively group threads, and even that minimally, so that I will not be effectively talking to myself.
  • @Rasti Gwynn : Rasti is one of the direct descendants of Cynan ap Rhodri and, as such, he is a target of Cameryn's vengeance. She does not run the risk of facing counter Dark magic with Rasti as she does with DJ, so she will probably go after him more obsessively.
  • @Dominic Regan : The Defence Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts will be Cameryn's intellectual nemesis. She knows the answers to most of his questions; she just thinks they're stupid questions. An unfortunate habit of mouthing off will also net her frequent detention with Professor Regan, during which time they will probably have a number of philosophical debates about the nature of the Dark Arts.
  • @Fabien Álvarez : As both young students, Fabe and Cam will end up crossing paths several times. Sweet Fabien may develop a sort of puppy love for cynical Cameryn, who occasionally forgets that she currently looks 11 years old and tends to walk around like the adult she used to be.
  • Hogwartians : In the meantime, Cameryn is in no position to reveal herself or do anything too out of the ordinary (on purpose). She must continue to play the part of a new Hogwarts student, interacting with her peers, attending classes, doing homework and studying. As she does so she can also study the histories of the time she has missed.
  • @Miren Osabene : A fellow necromancer (WIP by Tori), Cameryn and Miren will eventually encounter each other and find that can offer each other much - Miren can teach Cameryn more about how the world has changed since she was first killed, and Cameryn can teach Miren powerful Dark magic.

It wasn't right. This... ʙᴏʏ... who looked just like Carbrey used to. Carbrey had been the pride and joy of the White clan. Sure, they hadn't seen eye-to-eye on practically anything, but they'd never stopped loving each other. Wasn't that why he took her corpse back to the family lands and, unwittingly, allowed this return to happen? But Carbrey had done everything right - gotten a bonnie Scottish pureblood witch for his wife, had a firstborn son and other children, flourished in the family business, made friends with all and enemies of none, invented three new Healing spells. He'd walked the straight and narrow and been the fine upstanding citizen the whole family expected him to be. Gods, how she missed her brother.

This ʙᴏʏ was ɴᴏᴛ walking the straight and narrow. This ʙᴏʏ was slutting around with other ʙᴏʏs. And worst of all - this boy was one of them. A Mac Cynan. Whatever his actual surname might be. "Conway." As the Hogwarts nurse finished fixing up a laceration that Cameryn had "accidentally" gotten when a Potions vial shattered on her table, she continued to glare across the hospital wing at her great-great-great... whatever-nephew, Reece, and one of his current dalliances, Damien Conway, both recovering from the contraction of some sort of magical plague whilst simultaneously rescuing baby unicorns from acromantulas in the nearby forest - the same forest, incidentally, where she had honed her Dark craft and raised her very first Inferius. Of course the forest had been much larger then. There was no end to the wounds and bruises that the passage of time was trying to leave on her. Not to mention this nurse person, who was not nearly the healer that her brother had been. She winced, ignored his sincere and pathetic apology, and continued to watch Reece while the idiot continued his work.

Damien scooted over in his hospital bed and patted the space beside him, and Reece practically bounded out of his own bed to climb into Damien's and started cuddling him. Cameryn wasn't actually aware that she was making a growling noise and grinding her teeth until the nurse man had tapped her on the shoulder the second time and managed to get her attention. She affected a sweet smile and said in her thick Scottish Lowlands accent, "Oh gosh, I'm sorry, I didn't realise it was hurting so bad. I'll try to relax," before making a great show of closing her eyes and breathing deeply.

But in spite of her severe hatred of Reece's stupidity, she couldn't help but be protective of, and affectionate toward, him. And not just because he looked like Carbrey, because he certainly wasn't acting like Carbrey and that cancelled it right out. It was because, right now, Reece was her only blood link to the modern world. She might be here now, but she didn't really belong. Yet. Eventually she would come into her full magical power once again and, if she could gather enough supporters, there was a good chance she could finish the job she had started twelve hundred years ago. She knew what to expect in terms of resistance, she could better protect herself and do more research on the development of spells and non-magical weapons so that she could turn such tools of conflict back on their users.

All of this was a far too grandiose dream for the time being, however. The mediwizard had bandaged up her arm and was saying something about "don't take this off until tomorrow," like he knew any better than she did. She flashed him a little kiddie smile and said, "Thanks!" before bounding out of the hospital wing. While she had been tempted to say something like "Get better soon" to Reece, she wasn't going to do it while he was clinging to, and wrapped in the arms of, the Mac Cynan. Something much more mundane and more annoying than an oncoming army was facing Cameryn now: her Defence Against the Dark Arts homework for Professor Regan. Again.

I did some tweaking, I wasn't sure if I was supposed to resubmit or not, but here it is again.

Name: Chrissy
Character name: Anwen Sawyer
Feature you are applying for: Earth Elemental
Application:

I have been on Magical Hogwarts for about six years and I have never done anything too radical. I have always wanted to try something different considering all of my characters seem to be similar. I have always played it safe and I want to show that I am capable of doing something different. Anwen is the one that has really been the different one and I think she fits really well with an earth elemental. I'm not doing this just to do it, I believe that she really does fit. She has a strong connection with the earth and is far different from the rest of those in her family.

The abilities that she learns as she furthers herself in her training, will help her develop. It will make her feel even more connected to earth. She will, of course struggle the training at first. It isn't easy to control the elements that she is even. But as she works through it, and believe me, she will work at it, Anwen is a hard worker and wants nothing more than to have some sort of magical power.  It will also give her more confidence. She will build more self esteem and will work through her issues of timidness.

Anwen never really fit in with other wizards or witches, especially not her family. She had always been the bright and bubbly one, the one wanting to help the wounded, the flowers/plants and the animals. She has never been good at wand magic. Wen is more interested in watching the plants grow than swinging her wand around. She has always struggled with wand magic and finds the theoretical aspects of magic much more entertaining. This is why she is good at other aspects of magic, such as potions, and runes, that doesn't require her to use her wand.

Anwen has always felt a special connection to the earth, which is why she would rather be naked and go barefoot in the woods then sit in an classroom. As a young girl, Anwen could be found outside, exploring her love for nature and all the earth had to offer. At the age of five, Anwen started to grow an aversion to the taste of meat. When she was old enough to understand why, she told her family that the soft flesh of the earths' creatures tasted like betrayal. Just cutting the meat from her diet wasn't enough, when saw how animals were mistreated on ranches, or how chickens lived in large coops; she stopped supporting the idea of any animal being mistreated and decided to go completely vegan.

Power is believed to come in the from of every tree, plant and flower. Anwen stands behind that one hundred percent, she also believes that nature has a soul. If one should eat that plant or animal, that person would gain the power that it once held. The young woman has a respect for nature and what it holds. She is also a huge animal advocate, she is strong willed and won't give up what she believes in easily.

The girl was raised in a mansion, but the mansion was in the woods. It was far away from pretty much everything, it was the way her family liked it. She spent a lot of her time out in the woods, when she wasn't doing that, she was in the house talking to her family. She loved her family, the family wasn't good at moving on. They spent a lot of time in her room and she spoke with them, trying to calm them, trying to help them 'move' on. But most of them won't or wouldn't but it stop her from trying to make them feel good about themselves. It was the way that Anwen was, she would give up everything at the drop of a hat if someone she cared about needed her. She is the type of girl that has a bigger heart than mind and she protects those she loves.

She is loyal but also gullible when it comes to things she doesn't understand. Anwen loves getting her hands dirty, whether literally or metaphorically. She enjoys working with plants, or helping people. Her favorite thing to do is to play peace keeper, even it involves putting herself in harms way. She would give up everything to help those around her.

Grey Welks-First person she tells about her elemental status. He is her best friend and will hopefully understand what she is going through. While she is trying to show him what she can do, she loses control and goes a bit overboard. She passes out in front of him. It shows both him and her that there are dangers in elemental magic.
Phridae Summers-Ice elemental, new to the power as well, become unlikely friends. Being opposite elemental it may cause some tension between the two but it will be an interesting friendship to see the two of them working together.
Jeremy Edwards- Jeremy will someone that will ask lots of questions about how the elemental magic works. How she controls it and he will be more than willing to talk to plants and help her when she needs it. She will talk to him about how it affects her.
Nazreen Ajay-Nazreen is a herbalist and professor that will help Awnen with her magic. She will give her small projects to help perfect her skills. She will also help her get out of other duties to help her with things. Anwen will be extremely fond of Naz and will probably spend a lot of time with her, learning all she can about plants and what ever else she can learn. She will also help Anwen get out of wand classes by telling the professors that she is needed in the greenhouses.
Basil Stringfellow-He will be her new herbology partner. He will discover her elemental power after they begin to work together. Basil will then share his own secret with her. His ability to speak to snakes, the connection they have with nature will bring them closer together. They will both be interested in each others secret and ask a lot of questions. Basil will view Anwen as a type of earth goddess, a power that Anwen will go into with the help of Basil. He will also help her build up her confidence by being the friend she needs.
Rosaline Bane-She is offered an internship in Rose's green house over the summer. They are trying to cross breed different kinds of plants, magical plants with the cannabis plant to create a more potent hybrid. Anwen will use her elemental abilities to speed up the growth to test it quicker. She uses the cannabis for healing purposes as well as other medical treatments. She also wants to make an oil out of it.
Amaranth Stringfellow-She will find out about Anwen either through Basil himself or through the talk of the snakes, that she is an elemental. When she finds out Amaranth will take Anwen, kidnap her. She will experiment on Anwen to find out what makes her tick. Anwen will be terrified, scared beyond all belief and will only want to go home.
Kanat Zhanalin-He is a water elemental that will make her see Basil for what he really is. She tries to bring him out of his shell and wants to make him feel more free. They will discuss the elementals and even though they aren't really 'friends' they get along okay.

A clear spring day, the clouds had passed by since the rain stopped early that morning. Anwen was outside by the quidditch pitch, waiting to meet with her best friend Turlough. She wanted to talk to him about the Victory Ball that was coming up. It had taken her all day to muster up the courage to ask him if he wanted to attend the ball with her. She liked Tur, she had always liked Tur ever since meeting him the classroom, the day that he was listening to Jazz. It was like they were destined for each other. They were kindred spirits only waiting for the right time to combine their powers together. When he was around, she felt butterflies, when he was around her world brightened.

She saw him approaching from the east and she smiled. As she smiled the flowers that had yet to bloom around her, start to open their petals. The grass seemed to get a little greener and the trees seemed to be singing. "Hello Turlough. I wanted to meet you here, I know you always practice quidditch on Saturday's. I actually know a lot about you." She blushed feeling the nerves as she told him what she felt. "I wanted to see you today because there is something I want to ask you." She bit the edge of her lip and looked down at her feet before taking a deep breath. It was hard to get the words out because she was afraid of what he'd say. She looked back up at him and smiled. "You know the ball is coming up, and I wanted to know if you wanted to go with me." She let out a sigh as she finished the question. Tur had been looking at her waiting for the question.

When it was out in the open, the words he gave her slapped her in the face. She felt her heart freeze and her body started to tremble. He was taking Emilia. Her breathing shortened and the plant life around her sort of wilted. The grass went back to his normal brownish color and the buds on the trees seemed to retreat back into themselves. "I....Of course.....Right yes. It was silly of me to have asked." She nodded and tried to fight back the tears that burned the back of her throat. The flowers drooped and she heard him ask if she wanted to attend with the two of them. She nodded. "Yes, sure. I have no one else to go with." After stating that, she turned to walk away. "I have to go now...."

As soon as she was far enough away, she felt her heart shatter. The tears she had been fighting back fell to the ground and where the tears fell, little tear flowers appeared. She wiped her face knowing that she would never be good enough for Turlough.

Again.

Name: Billie
Character name: Eirik Viðarrsen
Feature you are applying for: Elementalism -> Hor -> Discipuli

Eirik Viðarrsen is a boy marked with a bunch of different contradictions. Born from a pureblood family, Eirik doesn't quite see eye-to-eye with his parents or his older cousin who lived with the Viðaarsens since Eirik was seven years old. Eirik understands the ideaologies; the fact that pureblood families are slimming down, and that he's expect to one day fall in line to marry and have pureblood children, but at the same time, he is completely wrapped up in a boy named Mats; a muggleborn who grew up in the same town as Eirik. Eirik is big on the self-promotion and self-guided learning, and takes everyone into consideration. He enjoys making friends and he is especially fond of basically anyone he talks to. While Eirik is not really a talkative person, he does talk (unlike some of my muses), where he will add into the conversation with others, despite how weird or stupid it may sound. Eirik is completely and totally comfortable with himself, and will do things based on morality and his own sense of justice and acceptability, verses those of outside influences. Eirik absolutely loves learning new things, and is also equally resourceful when life gets down to the wire. Eirik listens to other people and thoroughly accepts everyone's opinions. He is not against using his own resources and finding new resources to further his knowledge of things.

It's silly, because I honestly felt like I didn't write Fabien's special feature application that long ago. But here I am. Again.

I think the reason why I want Eirik to have this special feature is because once again, it drags out my ability to practice and hone my writing skill. With Fabien's special feature, it's just starting; it's at the bare minimum of just little specks of dirt and little flowers that grow when he's happy. With Eirik, since he'd be farther along, it'll be more challenging. It will be a defining characteristic of himself. Plus, I like to torture my muses. I think Eirik having this special feature would really prove to work well between his personality and the plots I've highlighted below, but also, because of the future plots he can have. He's already scratching at my noggin' hoping that he can be as great as some of the other elementals on the website, because that's what he does: he looks and morphs and changes.

While this special feature isn't absolutely the only thing Eirik is, it will prove to put a strain on his relationships. I have it in my mind that Eirik was discovered pre-Durmstrang (because Eirik's birthday is after the September cut off date, he started closer to the age of 12 than anything), and so he's physically and mentally on par with fifth year students of the study. He's spent time at the council during his 11-12 year before he went to Durmstrang, and so he may or may not be a good person to corrupt in the future. He's not necessarily easy to influence, but since he's a sponge for opinions and knowledge, if he can be convinced, he might just swing one way or the other. Plus, on top of that, I think having this ability that defines himself and not his family is important for him. By having this special feature, not only will Eirik grow into a wonderful character, but he will also grow into his own shoes, and find his own path away from his family (yes, he can do it without this feature, but it's so much more fun having him feel constantly pushed and pulled this way and that).

Another thing I'd like to point out is that while Eirik leans dark, it is because that's the only thing he's ever known. His family, at least his paternal side, has strong ties with dark wizards and especially some death eaters. He is expected to blaze that path one day, too. Having this elemental power will prove trying for him, a constant torn idealism between the council ideals and the dark wizarding world. He will, ultimately, choose the more neutral path in the long run, but it isn't like he's going to just accept it without some internal struggle. When I say this, I also see this affecting his ability to find his own inner peace to successfully morph himself. This will not play into where Eirik ends up (because if he gets this special feature, he's going to find himself on the hard neutral side), but rather, is used as a developmental tool to gear where I want Eirik to eventually lead into.

Eirik's future plots are rather barren, and a lot of personal set up is needed to really understand a majority of these. We'll simply start at the beginning and work from past to future, growing in number as we go.

The first important plot I've discussed is with Volya Nikolov. Volya is an important part in Eirik's elemental background, as he was the one who discovered Eirik at the age of eleven, well before he went to Durmstrang. Volya would take Eirik as a tutor/mentor relationship, and Eirik trusts him more than he trusts himself. This is evident in the fact that Eirik grows to look up to Volya, and takes his word on almost everything, even without thinking about it (he does put thought into it, but he always weighs it heavily with the idea of Volya in his mind). This leaves a lot to interpretation and wiggle room regarding the influence Volya has over Eirik, although now that Volya teaches at school, Eirik is able to actively practice his skills with his mentor, and ask questions when he needs to.

Because Eirik was discovered pre-Durmstrang years (as his birthday is late in the year and so he started at almost the age of 12), Eirik subsequently spent a good amount of time at the Council at Inverness to learn the most basic of things. Here, he met Nikodim Balaur. At first, Eirik did not like Nikodim (he wasn't sure why, because the man was really a nice fellow), but he was soon informed it was because of their counter elements. Eirik flipped out one too many times on the older male (who took it in strides and was super patient with Eirik), and while Eirik still cannot control his agitation at Nikodim sometimes, he is learning -- very slowly -- to control his temper around other Incin elementals. Besides Volya, Eirik absolutely looks up to and admires Nikodim, and takes a lot of his word into his own opinions and decisions.

Because of his connection with Volya, it is no surprise that Eirik also has a pretty strong connection with Aiolos Logothetis. Maybe it was because Eirik had started to come to an age where he himself didn't know what was right or wrong, but seeing the connection between his mentor, someone he truly valued, and another man made Eirik start to become comfortable with himself. Just like with Volya and Nikodim, Eirik knows that if he has questions, he can always turn towards Aiolos for answers, whether they're elemental related or not. Eirik quite enjoys his time practicing with Aiolos, too, and will alternate working between the three older men to really hone and develop his own powers.

Another background plot that should be mentioned is with Kyllikki Kirkkomäki, one of Eirik's closest and bestest friends. Eirik and Kylli met when they were about eight years old, when their parents, long time family friends, decided they wanted to see how the two got off in hopes for a possible marriage arrangement. While this didn't go through, it would prove to be one of Eirik's strongest relationships. When Kylli went off to Durmstrang, she was discovered. Around the same time, Eirik was discovered, outside of Durmstrang. During the summer, both went to Inverness and ran into each other, realizing that they were closer then they actually appeared. Because Kylli and Eirik were discovered at around the same time, and at the same age, they are equal to each other in learning their own elemental discipline. This gives both Eirik and Kylli a strong support system to which they can not only push each other, but help each other through their hardships.

Because Eirik is over the age of fourteen, Eirik has also already been initiated, and takes his responsibilities quite seriously. During the rogue plot, whether or not it happens, Eirik could possibly be one of the few kidnapped elemental children who don't allow himself to be easily brainwashed by the rogues (he would be very council-oriented as it is already). This could possibly lead into a fun plot of Eirik attempting to thwart the rogues behind the scenes by trying to convince the other elemental kiddos to stand against them. Of course, it could also lead into breaking Eirik into being on the dark side. It's not like he doesn't swing that way.

Another person Eirik will interact with is the young Hinterikki Peura1, currently a first year Durmstrang child. Ikki will learn about his elemental powers himself, and Eirik will happily attempt to guide him, despite being different elements. He will cherish this new friendship deeply with the child, and will often try to help him along, often by showing little bits of his own elemental magic to help the boy himself. He will always be willing to talk to Ikki about any concerns he has.

A big plot that would involve Eirik's own personal development would be his interactions with his friends, such as Mats Balldrshóll and Miki Albescu, as well as his family, mostly noting his younger sister, Aina Viðarrsen. These three people mean the world to Eirik, and having to hide his powers from them will be painful and hard. He has managed to hide it from Miki for years so far but now that the water manipulation class is at Durmstrang, he's going to find it much harder to keep it a secret. With Mats, he is going to struggle letting him know that he's been hiding this since they were eleven, and that's where he went to during the summers, which may or may not create a bigger rift in their already deep friendship. Aina, his little sister, may or may not approve of his skills, although he loves and cherishes her deeply. Out of his cousin, parents and younger sister, Eirik would trust Aina with his secret more than any one else.

Speaking of family, another plot point will be relating to and surrounding Eirik's own younger sister, Aina Viðarrsen2. Aina is an important person in Eirik's life, as she is the only family member who he authentically has a connection with. As Aina is starting her first year of school, Eirik is going to get a new vibe from her, and will ask not only Volya about what he feels, but Kylli as well. Eirik will be the one to discover Aina's own Elemental gift, which will grow the two Viðarrsen siblings even closer together. Eirik will cherish every moment of bringing Aina to the council with him, and showing her the things he knows, and try to guide her along, even if he's not really able to help teach at all. This would also start a bond that will grow throughout their life time.

This would also be a good time to point out that Eirik's personal attitude towards what he believes is right and wrong verses his familial ties are obsolete when it comes to his elemental powers. He will not use his powers to harm others (unless it is to safe someone in the process), and this could possibly create a fun plot point with Inge, his cousin, who is a dark wizard/witch. This could potentially lead to Eirik's ultimate decision to cut most ties with his family and blaze his own path, or struggle down the certain world of expectations that he's been thrown into since he was born.
- - - - -

1 this plot would be dependent on the fact that Ikki gets his elemental application approved. Even without this elemental connection, Eirik will still enjoy his company and act like a big brother to him.
2 this plot would be dependent on whether or not Aina gets approved for her own special feature.[/color]

Eirik sighed as he felt the biting wind of winter coming. He dressed in the traditional Durmstrang uniform, confined by tight clothes and lanky limbs. He wanted to just wear long, loose pieces of clothing and not feel suffocated, especially while he practiced. Just because he was here at school didn't mean his own elemental studies were to slack. With Volya at school, though, he felt a little more at ease. A little. He could go to his mentor to ask questions and to get guidance, but at the same time, there were so many new problems. There were double the amount of people in Durmstrang, and double the amount of people who could find his own powers weird and strange. Plus, now that Mats was here, he had a hard time focusing on, well, anything. What would his best friends think? He was glad that he wasn't the only one, though. Kylli was there right side of him, training her own powers. Not physically, at least, but the metaphor reminded him to take a breath and focus. "I can do this," he murmured. He had been practicing his spell work, the use of Hor Grav. It wasn't challenging it just... it was trying. Eirik felt like trying to do this spell was more toll on his body than on anything.

He took a deep breath, feeling the rush of the wind in his chest. A slow exhale. He moved his hands, a familiar pattern that guided itself now. Water trickled up. He was out by Barents Sea. Virtually nobody came out here as the weather got colder. He felt the pull of the water, the connection as he stood there knee-high in the sea, although he knew it wasn't as great. He had seen Professor Nikolav do it; it seemed to easy. Why was he having trouble with it? He pulled the water up; it soared to the middle of his chest, maybe hovering in the air for just a few meters. It wasn't even a yard. It was like three-quarters of a yard high. He felt his jaw tense. He was getting frustrated, although it was an internal frustration verse anything. He sighed. He let the water cascade down back into the sea and took a step back. "Remind yourself of your focus," he warned, muttering under his breath. He'd try again. Once more. He knew this year would be the real challenge, with the usage of morphing. At least to get the basics down. How could he morph if he didn't get this spell down? He'd need to practice more.

Only mid-calf high in water, Eirik push all thoughts out of his mind to focus. He moved his hands again, feeling the rush of the water move with him. Clean. Effortless. One. He and the water. He pulled up; the water came. A tower of water became a wall, morphing and melting and rising and falling. Although... it wasn't much of a protection. Eirik studied it; it was thin, but it was a wall. He'd have to work harder at it. Practice more. Maybe it was time to go ask about it, or work with Kylli. Maybe Kylli's own spell similar to Eirik's would help him work out his own problems.

Name: Vannah
Character name: Izajasz "Whisper" Szymański
Feature you are applying for: Memory specialist - Legilimency and Occlumency

Whisper grew up as Izajasz Szymański, a rich pureblooded boy from Poland. He studied and practiced legilimency with his close friend @Dieter Meer, and learned from his father, who was also a legilimens/occlumens. In the last couple of years of school, the boy secured summer internships at the Polish ministry in the research department. He basically spent his time making coffee for a man who was friends with his father. When he graduated with top marks, the boy started working at the ministry and was quickly plucked out of his department and moved into a more secret research department. It was here that he spent the next decade studying memories and the workings of the human brain. He gained his nickname amongst fellow researchers as well as the work that he did in his own time. After leaving the ministry, he has travelled around Europe and spent a lot of time in the UK.

Now, Whisper uses his skills and knowledge to make money. He's a memory specialist; he takes away painful memories, makes memory modifications, interrogates people and collects unique and exciting memories for his clients to experience for a hefty fee. The work he does is the centre point that his life revolves around. He's very ambitious and is always working to improve his art. He's the type of clever that verges on mad, and he's obsessed with his work. He sees himself as a surgeon - he's always trying to make the perfect cut, leave perfect, seamless work. He has ideas about clean, pure minds and perfection that permeate everything he does. He doesn't like making a mess. He doesn't get his hands dirty.

The man is a little too slimy to really be charming, but he holds himself with the quiet confidence of someone who's well acquainted with power and control. He's usually calm, cool, collected, but he has a tendency towards substances that make him less in control. When he's drunk or high, he can't work properly, and his work is his biggest addiction and vice out of the lot. He's powerful and dangerous and sleazy and friendly. Most of the time. He cares about the integrity of his work, and never breaks deals or promises when he's on the clock. He thinks of himself as a neutral wizard, and even does interrogation work for the ministry from time to time, but really he's more of a dark wizard.

I'm very excited to play a character unlike any of the others I've had. I don't have any dark witches/wizards. I think his work fits in with both the HP and MH universes and I've already plotted things with drivers that I don't usually thread with/plot with, which is awesome. Playability is always super important to me when I write an EFB or a SF app, and all of the EFBs and SFs that I already have are constantly relevant and used in my threads. I'm also super aware than whenever he's using his SF with other played chars there will have to be 100% permission and communication about what's happening in the thread.

He can craft memories and put them in people's heads. He can alter existing memories. He can usually tell when people are telling lies. Ten years of dedicated study and practice have left him with very high level skills in both legilimency and occlumency. He's an expert on the human mind; specifically in the area of creating and editing memories and keeping his own ones safe. He has to keep a lot of secrets, so he needs to keep his occlumency skills sharp.

Whisper was in a relationship with [Amy]'s @Rikki Fowley, where he used his skills to write and rewrite parts of their romance, editing out the bad sections again and again as they happened until she caught on. We're planning on having them meet again after not seeing each other for some time.

[Castor]'s @Dieter Meer is a longtime friend of his, and the pair have extensive history using their legilimency for various things together. Having the two working on NPCs together, using their legilimency playing poker and re-doing first meetings with each other's friends and lovers are some of the ideas we have about playing their SFs out together.

[Jenny] is planning for her char @Aline Stanton to come and request Whisper's services for removing a painful memory.

[Toya]'s @Malachi Lancaster is the cause of some jobs he does for the British ministry, auror department. I'm also excited about potentially threading and plotting with Toya's seer wip, and the fun and horrible things that might happen to Whisper if he tries to use legilimency on her. Which he would.

@Pyxis Abercrombie is a character who Whisper wont be able to influence with his legilimency, who might want to learn more from him. [Tye] and I have talked about Pyxis seeking Whisper out for potential tuition.

I also have some vaguer or more long-term plot stuff with @Gaius Purcell [Gavin] as a potential employer, @Lorin Odell [Dylan] as a potential dutiful and fabulous apprentice, [Angry Panda]'s wip and many more. I think this feature will open plenty of fun thread opportunities for me.

“Tell me, are you still in contact with that blonde wonder you had last time we spoke?” There were few people nowadays that he could speak to in Polish. He felt comfortable speaking in English, but Polish was his native tongue. While he spoke, Whisper partitioned his mind into two sections. One part was here, in the dimly lit exclusive bar his friend had brought him to, and the other was somewhere else entirely.

Whisper and Dieter were standing in a clearing together. It was grassy and the pair were surrounded by tall trees, their branches meeting and interlocking far above the two men. He’d built this already; crafted the scene with perfection. He’d filled in enough details – the smell, the heaviness of the humid air – for Dieter’s mind to fill in the smaller ones, like criss-cross patterns on leaves or the pattern filtered light made on the mossy undergrowth.

Pulling back from this scene, Whisper surveyed the memory. It had “happened” yesterday. He didn’t overwrite any of Dieter’s memories from the previous day, but rather spliced this one right in the middle of Dieter’s memory of brushing his teeth the previous night. In a chronological sense, the other man would remember going to brush his teeth, looking in the mirror, suddenly being in a forest, then going back to brushing his teeth with no reactions or thoughts on the matter.

It was done crudely, too. Not the memory itself – the memory was crisp and clean, but its seams were very noticeable. It didn’t make sense, didn’t blend. It left raised edges where there should be no edges at all. Even if Dieter weren’t so talented in the fields of occlumency and legilimency, it would stand out. Whisper didn’t like doing messy work like this, but this wasn’t exactly work. This was just for fun.

“Yes, Kasia and Bianka are both well, as far as I know. I haven’t spoken to my sisters for some time.”

Whisper placed this crafted memory into Dieter’s head and returned to the conversation in about a second, but he could already feel the other man’s presence in his mind, meddling. They’d played games like this when they were younger. He intentionally left a small window open for the other man for these sorts of tricks. Not wide enough for anything serious. As teenagers, they’d always tried to one-up each other.

Hinterikki Peura

Name: Georgia
Character name: Hinterikki Peura
Feature you are applying for: Elementalism - Discipulus Madin

Application

Application: First of all, I feel as though many drivers here on MH will often deliberate whether or not to give their character a Special Feature - and in my case, I often decide not to. My reasoning behind not giving characters Special Features is usually that having all my characters have special features might be a bit excessive, despite how fun and interesting to play out it might seem. Instead, my characters become more interesting people through more mundane ways: @Tori Cooper has a big family, Jules ran away to join the circus, and @Josef Lasnik moved schools. Emmett and Elfie, with his abilities as an animagus and her rich family line, are my only characters who I have decided to officially apply for their 'special-ness'. However,  I feel as though playing an elemental will give me a new side to the wizarding world to write about, and a new dynamic to play with my character, so I have decided to apply for @Hinterikki Peura to be a Madin Elemental.

When I first made Hinterikki, I never even thought of applying for him to have a special feature. Aside from elementalism and being a metemorphagus, most features were too advanced for him and there was no point. At the time a metemorphagus didn't really interest me, and as elementalism was a MH canon special feature I wasn't too comfortable about applying for it, as I didn't really know what it was. So, he was left with no Special Feature. Ikki was going to be my little, mundane child. However, when I was later reading the elementalism guide (I had ideas for a Beauxbatons fourth year ice elemental called Julietta Ouellet, which has now morphed into @Julietta Ouellet and @Elfie Marchand), I found myself thinking of Ikki when I was reading the Madin section of the guide. He seems to fit the mould of a Madin elemental very well, and that was when I got thinking. Hinterikki is a very outdoorsy person. He likes to be outdoors, whether it be raining or snowing or sunny. He feels very connected to the outdoors. He is a quiet, loyal, idealistic, polite and passionate boy. He's not the brightest person, but he makes up for what he lacks in intelligence in character. He'd prefer to spend his time outside rather than in a classroom trying to learn, not because he's lazy and can't be bothered to work, but because he loves the outdoors, has much more fun outside than inside, and feels a strong connection with nature. He's a loving, warm-hearted boy and he loves his family more than anything else. Ikki is down to earth and knows not to set unrealistic expectations. He has a good moral compass, and is a very amicable and docile person. The Drakonya Krov is very reliable and can be counted upon; if you ask him to do something, he will do it. He doesn't like violence or fighting in any forms, is a strict pacifist and always tried to be the peace-maker. I felt as though this fitted the form of a Madin elemental very well, and basically everything on the guide seemed to describe Hinterikki, whose sheet I had written without even reading the guide before. As time went by I found myself thinking about it more and more, until I finally managed to convince myself to apply for elementalism for him.

As Hinterikki is currently only 11 in-character, I will be able to play out the whole experience of being discovered as an Elemental. Further details can be found in the Future Plots section of this application, but in short the ability will make him develop more in a person, make lots of new friends and become more confident in himself. It will be a learning journey for him, and not all of it will be easy, but ultimately Ikki will become a very happy boy because of it. Most of my characters (namely @Emmett Markham) are destined for bad times and miserable lives, but Ikki will be different.

Future Plots

Future plots:
Discovery: Perhaps most importantly, Taylor has kindly agreed that @Kyllikki Kirkkomäki will discover Hinterikki to be an elemental. The pair of them met in their Dragonology class at the Beginning of Ikki's first year at Durmstrang, and formed a bond between them due to their shared Finnish heritage and love of the Lappi Lohikäärme - the dragon they are making a project on. They get on well, and although they aren't currently the best of friends, Kyllikki discovering Ikki will make them better friends. As Kylli herself is also an earth elemental, this means that she is a likely person to discover him.

Learning and life: I intend to play out Hinterikki's learning journey and all the hardships he has to go through to try and learn the spells. Although he is very open with his friends and will probably tell them about his ability, he will also have to hide his morphing from his dorm-mates (when he gets to that stage) and will have to juggle his Durmstrang schoolwork and his elemental studies, which will probably leave him exhausted as he wants to do well in school but is unable to keep up with the level of spell difficulty that his classmates are at.

Interacting with other Elementals: With Hinterikki being an elemental it will give him the chance to interact with other Elementals like himself. Not just his own element, Madin, but also other types (such as Garth elementals, which could lead to some icy encounters. Bu-bum-ch). He'll be able to meet up with them not only at Durmstrang, but also at Inverness (or wherever he ends up being trained - see rogue plot below). He will be able to meet other elementals his own age, as well as people older than him and younger than him. A couple of other elementals (as well as the ones mentioned below) who he will interact with are @Simon Ainsworth and @Pascal Lefèvre, a Garth and Hor elemental respectively. At first Hinterikki will not speak to either of them as he is generally quite scared of all new people, especially if they're older than him, but once he has gained some confidence and some out of his shell a bit then he will attempt to make friends with them - although how they react to this is undecided.

Fabien Álvarez: One new person that Hinterikki will meet because of his elementalism will be @Fabien Álvarez, who is a Hufflepuff at Hogwarts in the year above him, and a person he wouldn't otherwise meet. Because they are being discovered around the same time the pair of them will be in pretty much the same position, although because of the dome around Hogwarts and when Ikki is going to be discovered one might be slightly ahead of the other in their elemental training. Eventually Ikki is going to become really go friends with Fabien, and so his elementalism will also help him reach out and become more sociable, and make new friends. Billie and I have done much plotting with Ikki and Fabe but not much of it is relevant to his application, so I'll leave it out. The long story short is that Fabien is going to help Hinterikki grown and develop as a person, and the two of them are going to become best friends.

Memphis Gredel: When Ikki first arrives at the Council, @Memphis Gredel is probably going to be one of the first to try and help him settle in and adjust. Memphis is an older air elemental but knows a fair amount about other elements so he will be able to offer the Drakonya Krov some help. He also knows the struggle of being an elemental in school and so will attempt to help Ikki with that, maybe even flying out to Belushya Guba every so often to visit him. Memphis has also always wanted a little brother, so will act as a brotherly figure and mentor to Ikki. During the rogue plot he has signed up to help and bring back elementals, so he may try and help save Ikki from the grasps of the rogues too.

Linnet Willowsong: @Linnet Willowsong is another Madin Discipulus and also the one to discover Ikki's soon-to-be-best-friend Fabien, so one way or another the two will meet (whether it be through Fabien or they just run into each other at the Council Carys and I have yet to decide). Ikki would love to have an older Madin who has recently been in the same position as him (aka a new elemental) so he is likely to try and ask Linnet for some help, but because he is shy and doesn't like talking to new people it will probably take him a while to work the courage up. As well as this, Linnet and Hinterikki do not share a language that they both speak, so it could potentially lead to some funny threads and stilted conversations.

Candelario Sandoval: At the Council in Inverness, another elemental that Hinterikki will meet is @Lario Sandoval. Lario is the unofficial Gaelic teacher at the Council and because Gaelic is a completely new language to Ikki he will need some help learning it. However, Lario and Ikki do not share a language that they both speak, and so, like Linnet, this could potentially lead to some funny threads, that is until Lario manages to teach the Finn Gaelic.

The Vidarsen's: Ikki will have spoken to @Eirik Vidarsen a few times in passing before being discovered as an elemental, but when he sees him at the Council it will help the Drakonya Krov realise that being an elemental isn't as strange and as different as he thought it was. Before this he will have thought that it was bizarre and something to hide away from the rest of the world, but after befriending Eirik he will become a lot more open and comfortable with his elementalism. Eirik will also act like an older brother to Ikki and help his adjust to the elemental way of life. As well as Eirik, Aina Vidarsen (Eirik's little sister and Tay's WIP) will also help Ikki to realise this. Being in the same year the two will have spoken quite a bit and when he meets Aina at the Council too (provided her app gets approved) it will also help him to realise how many elementals there are in the world. As well as this, Ikki will feel the needs to be friends with Aina (because they're in the same year and both elementals he will feel as if he has no choice) even though he is slightly scared of her. Hinterikki will probably also find it slightly difficult to get along with her because, although he doesn't know it, they are counter elements.

Upcoming rogue plot: (this is just a rough idea of what will happen - details are not set in stone as the plot is currently in the process of being re-planned) Since Ikki is going to get discovered around the time when the upcoming elemental rogue plot is going on, it is more than likely he'll get kidnapped by the rogues. However, he won't be kidnapped right away and so will probably have visited the Council several times and adapted to the Council way of thinking. Because of this, when he gets taken by the rogues Ikki will be doubtful and therefore the rogues will take him out of school and not allow him to go back, just in case he tries to escape back to the Council. Over time however, Hinterikki will be brought round to their way of thinking. He is easily persuaded and very gullible, and as well as this the rogues will have one of his best friends, Fabien, on their side so he will be easily persuaded. By the time the Finn realises that he is on the wrong side, he will be too invested in the rogue side and too scared to try and run. By the time this plot is resolved and all the kidnapped elementals returned home then Ikki will have missed a lot of his schooling, and as he can't to wand magic anyway he will probably decide that there isn't much point going back to Durmstrang and just drop out. After this he may return home to Finland and live with his parents, or dedicate his time to elemental studies, or find himself a job, or anything else really, as he'll be as free as a bird. He'll probably spend some time visiting all his friends and catching up with them, but after that, who knows where he'll go. Samm has kindly agreed that her WIP Rogue Madin Elemental will be the one to kidnap Ikki. The (currently unnamed) Rogue will kidnap Ikki and take him to his farm, along with the other elemental children that he has kidnapped. He will convince the Drakonya Krov that the Rogues are right and the Council is wrong, and although Ikki will be unsure at first he will slowly be convinced. He will also be convinced by Tori's WIP Rogue Incin Elemental Julen Ibarretxe, who Hinterikki will interact with while at the farm. Julen will be very kind to the Finn, which will help him to believe that the rogues are the good guys.

Timofei Sidorov: @Timofei Sidorov is another Madin elemental at Durmstrang who Ikki will interact with before he is kidnapped. Tima is going to warn Ikki of the rogues and what they do, but when he is taken by them he will forget his older friends advice and walk blindly into their trap. It is only when it is too late to back out and run away that he will remember Timofei's advice about how cunning and manipulative they are, and how they can twist things to make it seem as they are the good guys. Ikki will start to see through the lies and begin plotting an escape.

Elemental Plots: None of this is certain, but there has been some talk in the Elemental Sandbox of another plot that will go on while the Hogwarts elementals are trapped inside the dome. Because nothing is set in stone I haven't really decide what effect this will have on Hinterikki, but I would love to get him involved with this and maybe visit Scotland/Hogsmead as a part of it.

Roleplay Sample

RP sample using the feature: This sample takes place before Ikki has been discovered as an elemental, so he is doing elemental magic without him knowing what it is

Hinterikki sat outside on the grass, just listening to the wind wand watching the trees sway in the breeze. It was a cold day in January but he was huddled up in his warm red coat and he had his jumper on underneath, so he wasn't going to freeze. The Drakonya Krov should have probably stayed inside the school and hidden in the common room by the fire, but he felt an urge to be outside. And anyway, he had something that he wanted to try.

Ever since the beginning of the year, Ikki had noticed strange things going on around him. In September when it has been slightly warmer he'd noticed flowers opening up slightly when he'd walked past, and when it had been colder, around December, he'd felt as though he was able to get the grass to move if he concentrated really hard. It could have just been the wind or a coincidence, but the Finn had brought himself round to the way of thinking that maybe he was special. The 11 year old had done some asking around and it wasn't normal magic like he'd originally believed it to be. So he wondered what it was. But that wasn't what the boy was going outside to test now, he was going outside to practice it. He'd been doing some practicing every time he walked past this certain tree in the grounds, but he never really got a proper chance to try out his special magic on it. Now was the chance he had been waiting for.

Checking around him to make sure there was no-one in sight, the brunette climbed to his feet and flipped his red-and-black-striped scarf over his shoulder, running over to the tree. When he had first found this tree it had been old and gnarled, but over all the times he'd stared at it while walking past it had gained a little life and looked slightly less, well, dead. It was still bare of all leaves and grey, but it looked more like it was hibernating rather than completely dead. It could just have been his imagination, of course, but he was determined that it was not. The boy re-tucked his trousers back into his boots and then checked furtively around himself again, before grabbing hold of a low branch and pulling himself onto it. After checking that it was sturdy first, of course. He didn't want it snapping, because then he would fall off. Scrambling up braches like a squirrel and swinging from branch to branch like a monkey, the Finn had soon made his way up to a branch close to the top of the tree. He swung one leg over so he was sitting on it like a horse and gripped on tightly with his legs and hands. This was the moment.

In front of him was the small stump of a stick. It was only a thin stick and so the stump wasn't very wide, but it was just what Ikki needed. He must've looked quite strange, sitting on the tree and staring intently at the log. After a moment of deliberation the Finn lifted one hand off the log and pointed it at the stump, his palm facing forwards. In all the muggle superhero movies he'd watched with his parents back at home in Turku they had put their hands facing the thing they were using their powers on, so it must do something to help, right?

"Grow grow grow grow." The first year muttered under his breath, his eyes beginning to ache from the strain of staring at the stump. He sat there for a few minutes but nothing happened. All he could hear was the wind in the trees beside him and the sound of his own breath coming out of his nose. He was just about to give up when slowly, the stump bean to move. A smile grew on his face as slowly, very slowly, the stump began to grow and turn slightly green. It was only a slight change, but because the young boy was focussing so intently on it he saw it. Then the end split and Ikki could see something purple emerging from the top, all the time while he muttered the word grow under his breath. Gradually a flower appeared out of the end of the stalk, and finally it stopped growing, then a lilac flower had bloomed out of the end of the stalk. It has taken about three quarters of an hour to complete, and Ikki's mouth was dry and he felt frozen in place, but he'd done it. He'd actually done it! The young wizard couldn't wait until he would be able to write home to his parents and tell them about the little purple flower and-

Suddenly, the Durmstrang student heard footsteps crunching on the gravel path below him. He would have stopped what he was going and frozen in place, but as he was already frozen he couldn't. The little wizard didn't think he was meant to be up this tree, and he didn't really fancy getting in trouble either. Spurred into action by the footsteps getting louder the Drakonya Krov began to scramble down the branches until he was about two metres off the floor. The Finn grabbed hold of a branch above his hand and jumped off the one he was crouching on, pushing of as hard as he could and propelling himself forwards. It was a small gap that he had to jump and he was confident that he was going to make it so let go of the branch above him as his boots landed on the wood. Unfortunately, him letting so had made him fall slightly too low and so his boot slipped off and he fell the final couple of metres to the ground, letting out a panicked shout before landing on the gravel path with an oof.

"Uh, hello." Ikki grinned up at the person standing over him, winded and hoping they wouldn't notice the newly-bloomed flower in the tree above them.

Re: Special Feature Applications

Name: Tay
Character name: Aina Viðarrsen
Feature you are applying for: Elemental | Garth Disciplus

Aina is, first and foremost, loyal to her friends and Eirik. She'd do nearly anything for them and wants nothing more than to please them. Though she may seem a bit cold on the outside, Aina is actually fairly  nice once one gets to know her. She's a manipulative girl, or at least she tries to be; the Norwegian has an odd fascination with words and how they affect people. Aina sees it as a sort of sport to try and use words to her advantage. The Norwegian absolutely loves secrets. She loves knowing the things that people want to keep hidden, not to gossip, not to blackmail, she just loves knowing. However, she herself is rather secretive and much less forthcoming with her own unknown details than she prefers others to be.

Her entire life she's been pulled, molded, twisted, and bent by her parents and cousin and she does not like it one bit. She absolutely hates being controlled. The Norse girl is highly independent and very much wants to be her own person. However, despite her mixed feelings about her family, she still has a strong desire to make them proud, and while this extends mostly to Eirik, it does include her parents and Inge as well. Though she'd never admit it to anyone, Aina is actually quite afraid of her family, particularly Inge. In reality, this is one of two reasons she does what she's told. She's let Inge and her parents shape her because she has always been too scared of what they would do if she openly rebelled. The other reason is she feels as if she has duty to her family, to keep their line pure, to be the perfect child, to be exactly what is needed.

Because of the influence of her cousin, Aina has some twisted morals. She believes that the world is survival of the fittest and anyone who says otherwise must be smoking something. As a part of this outlook, Aina can be a bit ruthless in getting what she wants and has 'the end justifies the means' type of mentality. Aina is definitely a grudge holder. Slow to forget and almost slower to forgive, keeping her feelings of resentment for a ridiculously long time

Over the years she has become a rather good actress, being obedient and well behaved around most adults but in reality fantasizing about rebellion. While she does actually respect some adults, these tend to be few and far between. The Norwegian girl is rather judgmental and opinionated, often forming her opinions quickly, though she often keeps them to herself.

After Kyllikki was sorted, I swore that I would never again apply for a special feature. Apparently my muse had different ideas, because here we are!

Honestly, when I first adopted Aina, I wasn't planning to have her be an elemental at all. However, as I discussed her personality, the Viðarssen family, and her relationship with her brother Eirik with Billie, a 'what if' question popped up. What if Aina was an elemental as well? How would it affect their relationship? How would it affect her as a character? As I thought of the answers to these questions, the idea of her being an elemental began to take hold. It added an entirely new dimension to her character, a complexity that wasn't there before.

Should Aina be approved for this feature, it would put a lot of strain on her as she struggles to figure out who she really is. For the first long while, she will hate it. She'll hate that she's different from everyone else, unable to produce regular magic. She'll be afraid too, absolutely terrified that her parents or cousin will find out, that it will ruin the perfect image that she's created for herself, or worse, that they will send her someplace to be experimented on. This will be a good time for character development as she is pulled every which way and that by her brother, cousin, other elementals, and her own twisted sense of right and wrong.

One final note: while her affiliation is dark, this is because that's all she's ever been taught. At this point, she’s not exactly sure what ‘good’ is, but through the interactions with other characters, she may very well become more ‘good.’ Of course, she could also become more dark than she already is, but that’s part of the fun, is it not?

I suppose the last thing to address is why I personally would like this feature for Aina. Besides the amazing character development and thrilling plot opportunities, I feel as though it would give me a chance to expand and improve my writing skills. Aina is vastly different from the rest of my characters, locked in the struggle between good and bad. True, she will be similar without the elementalism, but it adds an extra closeness to her brother, another allegiance to choose from.

Eirik Viðarssen: Probably the biggest plot Aina would have concerning this feature would be with her brother Eirik. Eirik will be the one to discover Aina, and with his guidance she will grow accustomed to being an elemental. He will also introduce her to several of the elementals that he already knows, which will greatly widen her circles of elemental acquaintances.

Eirik will also be her voice of reason, her conscious of sorts. He will be the one to aid her on keeping on the straight and narrow path, dissuading her from making poor decisions such as joining the rogues or dropping out of school. Aina will seriously struggle to distinguish between right and wrong as she finds that what she was taught and what she believes in sometimes conflicts with the council ideology, and Eirik will be her light in the darkness.

Hinterikki Peura: As year mates and possibly house mates, Hinterikki and Aina will come to know each other fairly well, however, Aina will feel quite uncomfortable around him since, unbeknownst to her, they are counters. Yet, as he is one of Tero's closest friends and as Ikki and Eirik grow close, Aina will feel an obligation to at least try be friendly to Hinterikki. This will be an interesting experience for Aina as she battles trying to do the right thing and her uneasy feelings about him.

Volya Nikolav: Even though his garth is only his second affinity, Volya will assist Aina in her training as much as he is able. He will check up on her to make sure she is doing as she should, and give her tips where he can.

Nikodim Balour: With the right, or rather, wrong influences, Aina very well could become swayed towards the rogue side of things. Niko, who has known Aina since she was a baby, will be rather concerned as she grows to be more interested in the rogues. To keep her on the council side of things, Niko will arrange for her to have secret lessons with a rogue ice elemental, though only under very tight surveillance.

Gaspard Archambault: Michaela has kindly agreed to have Gaspard be Aina’s primary mentor. For once, Aina will actually have respect for an adult from the get go. As old and skilled as he is, Aina will be a bit scared to even attempt to defy him in any way, and see him as a good person to go to for advice.

Sabela Portela: Her closest and dearest friend, Aina will find it nearly impossible to keep her elementalism from her. Quite soon after Aina is discovered, she will send an owl to Ela explaining everything and pretty much rant about her 'condition.'  This will help her later as, unbeknownst to either of them, Sabela is a consensimens1. Knowing that they both have something odd about them will bring the two closer than they already are (though not in proximity).

Antero Kirkkomäki: Besides her brother, Tero knows Aina better than anyone else, and while she will initially try to keep it from him, Tero will be able to tell something is bothering her. It won't take long for Aina to tell him, but she will only do so after swearing him into secrecy.

Other Elementals: There is a lot of talk about a possible rogue plot, and if/when that gets put into motion, I plan for Aina to be a part of it. I think it would be fun to see her kidnapped by the rogues, and have that be her first introduction to them, to kind of pique her interest a bit, though she will still be loyal to the council at that point

Furthermore, her interactions with other elementals, particularly the ones closer to her age, could influence her a lot. While there aren’t a whole lot her age (with the exception of the ickle Madins) there are a few slightly older that Aina could shadow or look up to. Of course, there is also a large amount of adult elementals for her to interact with as well.

Aina was frustrated. Why would this stupid stick not work right? It was ridiculous. She’d been at Durmstrang for a little over three months, and where some of the other kids her age had already mastered their first spells, Aina could hardly perform the most simple of spells. But why? She was a witch, right? Well, she had to be! Aina distinctly remembered her first sign of magic, and she had gotten her Durmstrang acceptance letter, so why couldn’t she do what the other kids could?

That was the question. Practice really did no help whatsoever so she’d concluded it must have something to do with her wand. However, after nearly two whole entire hours of examining the useless stick, she hadn’t been able to detect anything out of the ordinary. Or at least on the outside. Perhaps there was an issue with the core! Perhaps it had been unknowingly broken in the wand making process! Yes, that had to be it! That would explain everything!

But then again, perhaps it really was an issue with her. Since she had yet to try a different wand and hadn’t had anyone else try hers, there was a very real possibility that it was her fault. Maybe Eirik could get it to work! He was good at magic, and if anyone could get it to work it would be him! But then again, was it right to tell him? Would he send to their parents or Inge? That would be terrible! None of them would be pleased that Aina couldn’t do any magic and she very well could end up in a lot of trouble for it.

No. For now she’d keep her failures to herself. She’d tell no one, not Eirik, not Sabela, not anyone in her year, nobody, and that was that! She slammed her wand on the table to accentuate this point. Ha! Maybe that had beat it into submission. But as she went to pick it up again, she noticed something strange. Frost was creeping over the surface of the desk, coving the top and everything on it. Huh? What on earth was this? It wasn’t that cold in here! Aina knew that she hadn’t done it, how could she have! She wasn’t even touching her wand! But there wasn’t anyone else around to perform it . . . had she done it after all?

Name: Spencer
Character name: Pierce Lachapelle
Feature you are applying for: Typh Advocate

[div style="margin:20px;"]
[/div]

What interests Pierce more than anything is the world around him. He is an analytical, curious, and inquisitive young man with a great need to understand things. He is a logical tinkerer, needing to pick things apart and learn how they work. This makes him keenly observant, sometimes nearly hyper-aware of his surroundings and the environment of any given situation. His thirst for knowledge and new experiences make him an adaptable and fluid creature, never getting too attached to any one activity. He is easily able to iterate, to conceptualize complex ideas and devise new ways of solving problems. He considers himself to be clever, creative, scholarly, and prudent.

Such interest and passion for the world make him an active and dynamic being, changing course as quickly as the winds. This leads him to be energetic and athletic, open to all forms of exercise and physical activity. In particular, he favors Quidditch and climbing, having a deep fondness for reaching new, literal, heights. He is methodical and meticulous in his ways, sometimes even to the point of being pedantic. He likes things to be done well, to be done right, and to be done efficiently. Despite being clearly and openly led by his mind, Pierce is charismatic, genuine, and humorous. He loves people, learning about their lives and interests, always seeking to find some new insight into the overall human experience. He loves gatherings, social events, and any opportunity to meet people outside his regular circle.

He is cultured and well-educated, being the son of an artist and a ministry worker. His childhood home was as full of discussions on music, dance, and the arts as it was foreign relations and complex theoretical repartee. Pierce himself is familial, wanting to make his family proud and carrying a sense of duty on his shoulders as the eldest son. Similarly, he is a sentimental man, carrying a deep fondness and affection for his past and the events that shaped him into the person he's become. He strives to be honest, helpful, trustworthy and reliable, caring about his friendships and never wanting to let people down. He is protective and can be insightful, though he is more likely to help a friend come up with practical, logical solutions to their problems than be particularly emotionally nurturing.

In that vein, though Pierce strives to be his ideal self, he is far from it. The man is absentminded, ruthlessly ambitious, and competitive. He loves to argue and debate and can often be contradictory. He is stubborn and can be very private, particularly about his emotions and deepest concerns. He has a tendency to want to be in control, sometimes even to the point of being domineering. He is sarcastic and unafraid to be a bit petulant, particularly if he wants to get under someone's skin. He is playful, in both good and bad ways, sometimes lacking maturity and sometimes just outright rebelling against the whole concept. He tries to be moralistic, though sometimes only to hold the higher ground. He can be prideful, but usually in an effort to conceal his envy for other people and things that he covets.

His ability to change and adapt can sometimes be abrupt, too sudden, befittingly leaving some to think him airy and foolish. His analytical, opinionated, and stubborn nature can lead him to seem arrogant and distastefully egotistical if not kept in check. He is assertive, which can be helpful, lest he not be too overzealous. He is critical, demanding, and frequently impatient, especially in tolerating ideas or solutions that he feels are not superlative. Conflicts of this nature lead him to be querulous and, on occasion, irreverent and even disobedient. Such times give way to tempestuously moody, defeatist attitudes that leave him prone to escapism and distraction. He has a desire to be the best, wanting to please people and make things better. When he can't, he is often covetous, possessive, and snarky.

In his recent years he has tried to let go, let the winds carry him at their will, bringing him to new places, people, and experiences that he regularly would've never discovered. He has a newfound happiness and zest for life, a passion and a willpower that carry him through the skies. He is always ascending, climbing his way towards the summit, wanting to find enlightenment and meaning in the world. Every now and again, though, he likes to pull his head out of the clouds and enjoy his time here on the ground level.

My interest in the elemental lore of Magical Hogwarts runs deep. I am most intrigued by the idea of Elementals as a magical subculture, these special beings possessing ancient and powerful magic while simultaneously living, working, and existing among their regular wizarding counterparts. One of my favorite aspects of Pierce's character is that while he is an elemental, he comes from a large family of regular wizards, and seeing as two of his siblings are currently sorted characters, opportunities arise to actually play that out and explore it in character. Similarly, Pierce has spent a great deal of his time trying to incorporate into the regular world. He wanted to make his family proud, to be a 'golden boy' of sorts, playing Quidditch at Beauxbatons and having lots of friends and excelling in his studies. All the while, he had Elementalism to maintain, to master, pressures and outside forces acting on him. Like the winds, he is a turbulent force, unable to be controlled or tethered down. His need to live, to explore, and to be free are big parts of his overall character.

The element of air is at the core of Pierce, in his spirit and soul. He is active and engaged, always wanting to be a part of everything going on. He is highly educated, a glutton for knowledge, having a strong mind for history and mythology. Devoted to the council from a young age, he spent an immense amount of time learning, reading, and devouring the lore of his people. A double edged sword, he's a bit of a know-it-all, wanting to boast and take pride in all he's learned. Like the traditional Typh, he cares little about money and material things, abandoning his life and security at the chance to travel adventurously, gain knowledge, and ransack ancient tombs.

He can be stubborn, firm on his opinion, holding the high ground and promising 'my way or the highway.' But, as fast as the winds can change, he realizes his mistakes, owns up to them, and reverses course, resetting his sails and letting the winds lead him to calmer waters. He is a natural born leader, the eldest of his siblings, learning from an early age the duty and responsibility that was expected of him. He has no qualms taking control, and honestly usually prefers it that way. Ultimately, he is a whirlwind of adventure and chaos, finally courageous enough to embrace his inner vagabond and explore all that the world has to teach him.

Pierce's Elementalism permeates his entire character, personality, and life. The element of air is as much a part of him as his heartbeat, beckoning him, whispers on the wind promising greatness. For his adolescent years he fought against it, wanting to control it and harness it on his terms (arguably, a very Typh quality.) It wasn't until letting it go, embracing the freedom of the wildest winds, that he found himself and his true passion. He's grown so much as a person in these recent years and that is because of his Elementalism, because of the bravery that the element of air instilled in him.

[div style="margin:20px;"]
[/div]

Elemental Plot; One of the aspects of Pierce that interests me most is his role within the council. He was extremely dedicated as an adolescent, competitive and invested when it came to training at Inverness. When he got older, though, he followed the winds and found himself adventuring around the world with little time left to dedicate to the organization. Now that he's met so many different kinds of people, seen from many perspectives, he has begun to question whether the council is really as wonderful as he'd always believed. Truly, I do not know if he will stand with the council or abdicate and join the rogue faction, but I do know that either way, he's going to put up one hell of a fight.

Family Relations; When Pierce is first discovered to be an elemental, his family has their reservations. His father, prim and proper, worried that it was a burden his son would have to bear. As a foreign relations officer for the Ministry of Magic, it evens led him to wonder if Pierce could become a target or damage his career if discovered. His mother, being more of a free spirit, celebrates Pierce for his differences and considers it a special blessing. His younger brothers, however, are hesitant and think of him as a bit of a freak. Though now they all are used to his elementalism (and frankly far more concerned about the time he ran away to raid tombs for a living), his connection the element of air would play a distinct role in his relationship to his family, and specifically his played siblings Prosper and Adrien.

Julen; Tori's WIP Incin elemental, Julen would be a longtime friend to Pierce. They would've written during his travels, Pierce leaning on him during the days when things felt dire. Upon returning from his adventures and attempting to settle into every day life, Julen would reveal a troubling discovery about the council: murder, deception, and a cover up. Learning such troubling news and already skeptical about returning to Inverness, this interaction would undoubtedly fuel Pierce's doubts about the nobility of the council.

Zoé Deveaux; A fellow elemental and good friends with his younger brother, Pierce and Zoé would've always been amicable. After the incident at Prosper's birthday party, the boy would've felt compelled to ensure she was alright. They would become closer, and when Pierce goes off after graduation, they'd stay in touch. After returning and learning the troubling information from Julen, Pierce would confront his friend and ensure that she, a loyal council elemental, had no idea of what had unfolded. How Zoé will react to the news and to Pierce's passionate concern remains unclear, but one thing is for sure: there will be painful questions and uncomfortable truths.

Medusa; Arrogantly believing his numerous adventures have prepared him for it, Pierce will venture to the island of Medusa. Riddled with treasures and rare, mythical items, its unsurprising that the historian would be keen to take a look around. Quickly caught and at the mercy of the witch, Pierce would use his elementalism as a bargaining chip, agreeing to offer the woman his hair, blood, and beyond in exchange for his life, freedom, and access to the island's treasures. It is possible the pair will strike up a working relationship, Pierce bringing things to the island for the woman and earning her continued guidance in return.

Alain St. Clare; Perhaps Pierce's oldest friend, Alain St. Clare has always been close to the Lachapelle. Perhaps drawn together due to their affinity for the same element, they share a special connection all throughout their schooling years. Though it is hard to capture Alain's attention once he so desperately falls for Isabelle Laurent, Pierce is always loyal and faithful to his friend. When Pierce went adventuring after graduation, the pair fell out of touch, although they will soon reconnect as members of the Nightmare League. Alain and Pierce are both behind in their training, still being advocates at the council. They will help each other practice and improve as they attempt to master Typh spells.

Memphis Gredel; Introduced to Pierce through Alain, Memphis is a fellow Typh elemental and friend. As kids, the pair was extremely competitive during their lessons at Inverness and always maintained a playful rivalry. After Pierce leaves for his adventures, the pair remained in touch through his work. Being curious about mystical artifacts and working at the Third Aett, Pierce found success selling items and picking up tips via Memphis.

Nikodim Balaur; Taking on the role of a mentor, from a young age Nikodim looked after Pierce. Though they are not from the same element, they have a strong bond, and Pierce knows that he can go to Nikodim for anything, even if he gets into some not-so-innocent trouble. The pair fell out of touch when Pierce rapidly disappeared from the Council after graduation, but it is possible they will soon reconnect as members of the Nightmare League.

Rozenn Seznec; Council harbinger of his counter element no less, Rozenn holds many positions of power over Pierce. Ever since the woman's return to Inverness, he's been skeptical and cautious, avoiding her as much as possible. Though he would never admit it for fear of sounding weak, she terrifies him to his core, which could prove very interesting if Pierce ultimately ends up joining the rogue faction and working hand in hand with the seasoned Demin.

Volya Nikolov; Old enough to be his mentor but near enough in age to be friendly, Pierce's relationship with Volya is complicated. Though Typh and Hor are friendly elements, Pierce can never shake the odd and somewhat dampening effect Volya has on his mood, and their interactions with one another are perhaps best described as 'frenemies.' Though Pierce doesn't realize it yet, this innate feeling of tension stems from his secondary affinity towards Incin, counter to Volya's Hor, and his friendship with the man will one day play a role in this revelation.

Continued Plotting; If approved, I fully intend to continue plotting Pierce with other characters, elemental or otherwise, as well as hammering out specific, actionable ways to get him involved in Elemental board-wide plots.

[/div]

High above the jungle, floating, free and uninhibited. These were the best mornings, the only mornings that didn’t put him in a foul mood.

Morphing was by far Pierce’s favorite elemental power. Sure, there were many other useful, powerful spells that he’d learned in his years at Inverness, but none as pure and as natural as this. He was air. He was one with his element. Nothing else could ever feel so certain and so true. He imagined that his crew mates thought it odd that he preferred to “sleep” in the treetops, but it was just easier that way. He was a natural climber, always seeking the highest ground, always able to reach just high enough to be obscured from view.

No one seemed to mind that he preferred to keep watch, either. Sure, he needed his time to regenerate and work towards enlightenment, but mortal sleep was a luxury he didn’t require. Now that he was older, more experienced, able to see the world freely from his elemental state, he was the perfect watchdog. Sprawling, hovering, omnipresent. It was peaceful up here as he watched the animals in their habitat, jumping between tree limbs, scurrying along the vines. The air here was humid and thick and wonderful, palpable, and it made him feel alive.

There was a strong current in the air high above the jungle canopy, and Pierce had to fight the urge to let it take him as it wanted. That kept him in control, focused, ensuring that his element did not overwhelm him. He’d never quite wrapped his mind around it all, what it meant to be plucked from the winds and fused with a human soul. But, it was who he was. It was his entirety. The sun began to peek over the horizon and it was time to rally the troops. Here, deep in the Amazon, they had a small sliver of time to prepare before the sunlight illuminated the tomb they’d overtaken in just the right way, awakening ancient magic and promising powerful treasures.

With what felt like a grand sigh, the man descended, his body reassembling from fine, nearly imperceptible bits of dust. Like a billowing smokestack, he fell back into his humanity, back into his skin and bones and limbs. He felt strong, rejuvenated, awakened. He was ready for this. He was built for this. Stretching out his arms, he rolled his neck and began to work his way down the tree trunk, carefully placing each of his feet as he descended. With a final crunching thud his feet touched earth for the first time in nearly ten hours, and it reminded him of the adventure that was afoot.

With a smirk on his handsome features, Pierce wandered towards the makeshift campsite and prepared to awaken the crew. [/div]

THE DEMON'S RIGHT

Name: Meridian
Character name: Katsuro "Isonade" Oshiro
Feature you are applying for: The Demon's Right

Description of the character:
        History
Up until seven months ago, Katsuro was a carefree wizard, pirate, and smuggler living on the Demonfish with his wife Niamh, his older brother Tetsuya, and his mentor, who was the current Isonade (the title given to the captain of the ship) at the time. But his brother betrayed him and the rest of the crew by partnering with a rival ship and mutinying, killing all who opposed him. When Katsuro refused to join his brother, Tetsuya defeated him, cut off his arm, and threw him overboard.

Instead of drowning, Katsuro managed to wash ashore of a mysterious island floating in the sea off of Crete, where he was found and tended to by the island’s Oracle. In his half-dead haze, the only thing that kept him alive was a furious, burning vengeance. The Oracle, who fed on the darkness devouring Iso's heart, offered him a gift—a power like no other that would allow him to destroy his enemies, but at a great cost. Katsuro was desperate and felt he had nothing left to lose, so he agreed.

The Oracle then severed the rotting remains of his right arm from his body, and using an ancient ritual that took five days and six nights, she attached a new arm to his shoulder. The arm belonged to an ancient, extinct race of magical creatures known as the Dark Ones. The Oracle had taken the arm from the remains of a Dark One that had been hidden deep in her lair and bound it to Katsuro. In exchange for twenty years of his life and all of his magical ability, he gained the raw power of monster's arm— the Demon’s Right.

With this new power, Katsuro returned to the world of the living, took his vicious revenge on his brother and his traitorous crew, and claimed the title of Isonade and the Demonfish as his own.

        Personality
Iso is known to most as the sleepy captain of the Bake-Kujira, the legendary Japanese pirate ship, and one of the Eight Dragon Heads of the Scylla Pirate Council. Most people who meet him don’t really think much of him. The man spends his free time sleeping, drinking, or visiting brothels. He doesn’t really say much and tends to keep his business to himself. He’s a skilled sailor and negotiator, but other than that his personality can be a bit of a mystery. It’s not that he’s carefree, but more like he doesn’t want to expend the effort to deal with something if it might prove to be troublesome. Aside from that, he gets along pretty well with most people. He is hedonistic, flirty, and pretty unmotivated, only searching for his ship’s next big adventure.

There are also a few people who have seen him release the Demon’s Right, and among those people, he has another name: Akuma-Ou, or the Demon King. There are few things that can set Iso off, but the biggest thing is someone threatening to take what is his. After going through the traumatic loss of his wife, mentor, and friends at the hands of his brother, Iso has a tendency to go berserk when someone is threatening the things he cares about. The prospect of losing things that belong to him (and this includes both people and objects) awakens a sort of madness in him. He had been known to hurt people without hesitation if they threaten his ship or his people, because he is not willing to lose ever again.

Application:
        History of the Dark Ones
The Dark Ones, also known as The Déaþscúa, Dusk Demons, or the Grotesques, were large, winged humanoid creatures that had roamed the world since ancient times. They were not so much magical creatures as they were aggressive semi-sentient forces of nature. They were taller than most humans, usually standing eight or nine feet tall on average. They had tough leathery skin, not unlike that of a rhino, and no two Dark Ones looked alike, though from a distance they all resembled giant bats. Some had fur crests along their spines and hard bone plates, others had tall horns, and some even had extra eyes. A fully grown Dark Ones was able to stand upright on their hind legs and were rumored to possess some form of psychic link with each other that made them excellent pack hunters.

For many centuries, the Dark Ones stood firmly at the top of the food chain due to their immense strength, speed, and intelligence. Usually the Dark Ones fed on large animals and carried off the occasional human, but they tended to stay away from human populations. It wasn’t until the late 1100s that they lost their fear of man and developed a very strong taste for human flesh. Dark Ones were pack hunters and usually moved in groups of four to ten. They ravaged villages, cities, and small kingdoms, gaining the attention of the wizards in the area.

The wizards quickly discovered that most offensive magical attacks were useless on the Dark Ones. Their skin was incredibly thick and impenetrable by most curses and hexes. In the event that someone was able to inflict some kind of physical damage on the creatures, they healed extremely quickly. The wizards were fighting a losing battle, with many of their soldiers and villages being decimated by the hungry creatures. The wizards discovered that the only way to defeat a Dark One was to turn it to stone, which they could not heal from. Starting with a spell very similar to Petrificus Totalus , the wizards worked tirelessly to alter and refine their own binding curse against the demos. In the end, they created the spell Stánsciellig, which was mostly strong enough to penetrate the demons’ skin and turn them into stone from the inside out.

Despite now having a working defense against the monsters, it wasn’t easy to defeat them because one had to get within casting range to use the spell. The younger Dark Ones fell quickly to the humans, but the older Dark Ones were stronger than their juniors by factors of tens and hundreds. It took an army of men to take down a pack of older Dark Ones, usually sacrificing innumerable human lives in every fight. It was slow going, but eventually the remaining number of Dark Ones began to diminish. Dark Ones traveled in packs, but it became harder and harder to find a pack when so many of them were being killed and their power weakened considerably. In 1389, the last Dark One was slain by a legion of knights.

The wizards and knights realized that even in death, the Dark Ones were terrifying. Their imposing silhouette was enough to scare off other flying creatures, such as dragons or chimeras, at least for a short time. The knights and wizards began to mount the stony bodies of the Dark Ones on their castles, cathedrals, and other important buildings. Having a Dark One statue became a sign of great bravery and honor for many. In the dark, the stony monsters looked like sentinels guarding the kingdom, and were enough to ward off enemies and other dangerous creatures. These stony monsters eventually came to be called gargoyles or grotesques, and their design has been incorporated into much of ancient and modern architecture, both muggle and magical.

        Powers
The two major powers of the Demon’s Right are increased strength and speed, and a very high healing factor.

Iso basically has three stages of activation when it comes to his demon powers. Most of the time, when he’s not fighting and just existing through his everyday life, the arm is sealed away within the bandages and he looks very much like a normal human. Much of the time, his arm hangs limply in a decorative black sling or tucked into his jacket. His arm and fingers rarely, if ever, move. However, in this state, his arm is still incredibly strong and he is surprisingly quick on his feet. He is able to nimbly walk along the mast heads and lift boxes (that usually take two or three large men to carry) with his demon arm alone. In this state, his healing factor is at a basal 30% of its full power, so he has been known to get pretty seriously injured and still heal within a few days.

When Iso does activate his arm in his second stage, this requires him to remove all of the bandages that seal the demon powers away. The arm beneath the bandages is dark grey, almost black, and tougher than steel. The arm, but especially the hand, grow to about three times their size. Needless to say, he looks incredibly asymmetric. In this state, his arm can be used as a shield to stop many types of offensive magic and smash through defensive magic or barriers. He is also incredibly fast and can heal from deep bodily wounds in a matter of hours.

Unlike a werewolf and a wolf, Iso is unable to fully transform into a Dark One. And since he does not have wings, he also does not possess the power of flight like the Dark Ones did. He does, however, possess a full transformation state. When his arm is fully activated, his skin turns a dark ashen grey. He also grows a second pair of eyes, all four of which glow red like burning embers. While in this state, he is at his peak strength, impervious to most physical and magical damage, and can move almost as fast as a fully grown Dark One. In this state, he can take an enormous amount of damage, like having holes blasted through him. They holes will then close up and make horrible squelching noises as they do. It can be very visceral and horrifying to witness.

        Limitations
It is inaccurate to call Iso a wizard, though he is a Mahoutokoro graduate. He can no longer wield a wand, fly a broom, or perform magic spells. He has been completely stripped of his magical ability and is basically the same as a muggle in that regard. He has to rely on the wizards in his life to perform most of the magic for him. He is able to captain the ship without his own magic (since it is a magical ship that accepts him as its captain), but he has to rely heavily on his knowledge of sailing and the ocean, since there are times when he is alone and the ship. He also cannot maintain the Demon Right's seals on his own and has to have them redone once a year.

Using his demon arm is not a free action. It cost him almost twenty years off the end of his life to even have it properly bound to his soul. Day to day, Iso lives in pain, as if there is something stabbing him in the shoulder. Because the demon blood is coursing through his veins, and the telepathic influence of the Dark One can sometimes slip into his actions (ex: he developes a very strong hunger to eat other humans), he has to have the arm sealed in an intricately runed, multilayer bandage and covered with a special black glove that goes up to mid-forearm. Activating his demon arm is also dangerous. At the very least, tires him out extremely quickly, and at the worst he might overdo it and possibly push his body to the point of death.

Despite its immense power, Iso rarely, if ever, enters his full state. Every two or three minutes he spends in his full state cost another month off his life, and he very seriously recognizes what he’s sacrificing every time he goes into his demon state. If anything, this motivates him to work quickly, and often three minutes are all he needs to wipe out an enemy.

Future plots:
Makin' Bacon Pancakes’s Vashti Khiabani  ( @Maia Etxegarai ) ~ Iso’s relationship with Vashti is a little complicated. Iso’s wife Niamh was like a sister to Vashti and shared everything. When Iso proposed to Niamh, he effectively stole her away from Vashti. After Niamh dies and Iso takes his vengeance, he finds himself in need of a new crew. Vashti joins up with him and the two proceed to have an uncomfortably awkward relationship. Vashti doesn’t know if she blames Iso for Niamh’s death, but Iso definitely blames himself for it and it strains their relationship. They can talk about ship and business matters easily, but personal matters are another thing completely. In addition to this, the hot-headed Iso that married Niamh two years ago is very different than the Iso that she is sailing with now and they both have to adjust to it.
Sammalicious’s Gearhead ( @Mihaela Lupesco ) ~ Gearhead (which is his nickname) grew up with Iso and Tetsuya. The Oshiro boys came from a sailing family and spent a lot of time at sea with their parents and family. Gearhead’s family was very similar and the young boys grew up and played together. As they got older, they ended up going their separate ways. As fate would have it, Gearhead ends up sailing with Vashti, and eventually following her onto Iso’s ship. Gearhead doesn’t know this new Iso, the one with the demon arm and dark personality. Because of the demon blood coursing through his veins and the Dark One’s psychic influence, sometimes Iso does go over the edge and do things he wouldn’t usually do. Gearhead is one of the people who has to pull Iso back from the brink, and their deep childhood connection is one of the reasons it works.
Taylor’s Unnamed WIP ( @Gianna Regan ) ~ This 19 or 20 year old Mahoutokoro drop out is an indentured servant who was sold to her parent’s debtors. She’s very capable and cheerful, but her life has been hard. Iso sees her being auctioned off as a slave and immediately buys her for the ship. The two of them bond over their Japanese/Okinawan heritage and eventually develop an uncle/niece sort of relationship while she pays off her debt to him by cooking and cleaning and helping around the ship. At some point, Iso does try to teach her how to use his family’s Okinawan magic because he can’t use it anymore and wants someone to carry it on. It dredges up some buried emotions for Iso because it reminds him of learning this magic with his brother.
Makin' Bacon Pancakes’s Amir al-Bursuri ( @Amir al-Busuri ) ~ Amir is a skilled necromancer and an al-Busuri, which makes him particularly important to Iso's survival. Amir is one of the few people capable of figuring out how to seal Iso's arm and keep it that way through the use of many multilayered runed bandages. His expertise in necromancy is particularly useful because the Dark One's arm is technically a dead entity. And because Iso is unable to do any kind of magic on his own, he needs to have his runes redone every year, or sooner if something bad happens. Iso keeps a number of emergency bandages around just in case he is at sea, but they are only a temporary fix. It is my understanding that this project might be of interest to a number of al-Busuris and this could turn into a family project, though that is just a possibility.
Jess's Rajani Akhlys ( @Rajani Akhlys ) ~ Iso loves women of all types. He ends up crossing paths with Raj and is immediately interested in her and her Keres powers. Unsurprisingly for Iso, their interactions bring them closer and he wants feels it’s only natural that they sleep together. However, due to her Keres upbringing and her fear of her powers, Raj is extremely reluctant to get involved with him, especially since he wants to be intimate. She is slightly worried that physical intimacy with her could kill or injure him, but he assures her his powers will protect him. Hilarity and some sweetness ensue as they try to figure out if Iso can handle it.
Other Pirates ~ This one is more in general. I have spoken to a number of people (though no one is committed to anything yet and I don't want to pressure them by naming them specifically) and if there are more pirates on the board, Iso wants to interact with all of them. I think it would be a lot of fun to have a couple wizard pirate ships or people who float through exploring the world. I mean, come on. Wizard pirates just sound so cool.
Nightmare League ~ Iso often does work for the League and is one of their main means of smuggling or transporting people from place to place if apparating or using a portkey isn't an option. Nightmare League already has a number of people in it, and there are a lot of ways a ship can come in handy. This would be a way of bringing the two groups together to interact with characters for more RP fun.

RP sample using the feature:

Someone was pounding on the door.

Iso didn’t even open his eyes when he heard someone shouting his name from the other side. Instead he snuggled deeper into the warm, soft skin of the two women whose time he had bought this evening. Cinna, the brown-haired one with freckles all over her body, was lying across his chest and Shanna, the dark-skinned goddess with very clever hands, was curled up under his arm. After a night with these ladies, he wasn’t even going to let an earthquake wake him. It’d been a couple weeks since he’d been back to the port, and they all needed a bit of time off-ship, away from each other.

Suddenly, the bedroom door burst open and Iso cracked an eye just as he felt two hands closing around his ankle and yanking him out from under the blankets and women. He was pulled unceremoniously off the bed and onto the floor, his bare back hitting the ground with a heavy thud. His messy head of hair lolled forward, looking blearily at the young man standing in front of him. Jehan… Wait, was Iso late? Jehan always got mad when he came back to the ship too late, but Iso looked out the window and saw a crescent moon sitting snugly in a pitch black sky. It was still night time, so what…

He was quickly answered when the younger wizard smacked him across the face to wake him up and told him that the Demonfish had been stolen from the docks. Iso’s eyes widened and he scrambled to his feet, breaking free from the tangle of sheets to grab his pants off the floor and his sword from where it was laying against the door. He pulled his pants up to his knees before running after Jehan through the brothel, only managing to button his pants properly when they were already down the stairs and three blocks away.

The two of them ran down to a cliff overlooking the bluff where they had anchored the Demonfish not six hours ago. Iso looked out into the horizon and, sure enough, he saw his beautiful black and white ship sailing off into the distance without them. Someone had stolen his ship. His ship. Iso’s usual sleepy, bored expression disappeared, his eyes now focused and sharp. It was impossible to Apparate onto the ship, a failsafe to ward off intruders, but there was no time to grab a broom and Jehan probably couldn’t fly with Iso on the back. There was only one choice.

“Jehan!” Iso barked, looking over at the young man who had read his mind and was already drawing his wand. “Do it now!”

Jehan nodded and Iso braced himself as he felt an invisible force closing around his bare waist in an iron grip. A second later he was yanked off his feet and went flying backwards, and like a small pebble on the end of a string, he was whipped around and flung into the dark sky like a ragdoll. The wind roared past Iso’s face, his eyes watering and the skin of his mouth flapping wildly as he went sailing through the air, arcing out from the edge of the cliff, over the open ocean, and heading straight toward his ship that was getting bigger and bigger by the second.

S-shimatta!

Iso cursed to himself as he got closer to his ship. At this rate he was going to overshoot and miss the boat completely! He needed to be heavier, now. Holding his sheathed sword between his teeth, Iso grasped for the corner of his arm bandage, clumsily trying to focus through watering eyes. Forgive me, Amir. The moment his finger ripped open the first binding rune and broke the chain, the whole bandage loosened. Almost immediately Iso began dropping out of the sky at a steep angle, and a second later he was hurtling head first into his boat. Iso covered his head just as he smashed clean through the fore gaff and ripped through the main mast’s rigging, crashing to a stop when he hit one of the main deck cannons.

Ugh. Gearhead was going to throw a fit about the ship.

That was probably his worst landing to date. Iso blinked, his left eye’s vision a blurry red from one of his many new injuries. He was curled over the third starboard cannon like a limp cleaning rag, but when he tried to move he ended up dropping to the floor and retching up all of last night’s food and alcohol as the other people on his boat looked on. They all seemed too shocked by him falling out of the sky to react.

Iso got to his feet, wobbling as he looked unsteadily around at the unfamiliar faces staring back at him. He could feel his broken ribs knitting back together, but his left arm was hanging limply at his side and he’d lost his sword somewhere when he’d fallen. It was going to be a pain, but it was looking like he would have to use his arm on them. He would be quick about it.

“You have ten seconds to throw yourselves overboard and get off my ship,” Iso said in Japanese-accented English, turning to the strangers, who had since recovered from the shock and were now drawing their wands on him. His eyes flashed and the fury simmering in his veins erupted, making him feel like his whole body was on fire.  The bandage around his right arm slithered to the floor in a spiral of runed white cloth, revealing his monstrous right arm in all of its grotesque glory. The arm had grown twice its size and turned a blackish-grew, his hands ending in sharp, gnarled claws covered in a dark bone plating.

A bolt of red shot out from somewhere to Iso’s left and instinctively, he raised his right arm. The magic struck his blackened flesh in a burst of light that pushed him back a few inches, but then fizzled out. Iso frowned, taking that to mean they had declined his generous offer. His mouth formed a grim line and he readied himself for a fight. When he pushed off the deck of the ship, his speed was almost inhuman. Using his claws, he ripped through the strangers like a hurricane, dark eyes not discriminating as he cut the thieves down one by one, barely slowing even as he sustained heavy magical damage to his human body.

Not much later, Iso was the last figure left standing, the fifteen or so thieves effectively silenced. He fell to his knees, his chest heaving and the rest of his body throbbing in agony. Beneath him, the Demonfish responded to the command of its captain and began to change course, returning to Port Charybdis. His left arm, which he could now move again, clutched his right arm as he felt the Dark One’s bloodlust surging through his veins. Without Amir’s runes, Iso couldn’t reseal his arm. He would need to ask Vashti to use the emergency seals as soon as he got back to shore or it could get bad.

But before that, he should probably clean up first… Getting back to his feet, Iso easily lifted up one of the thieves with his right arm and threw him overboard. He continued until the deck was clean (relatively speaking) before going to his quarters.

When he came back out, he could see the curve of the beach in the distance and figures standing at the edge. The crew had gathered at the foot of the cliff and he waved to them with his mostly-healed left arm, his grotesque right arm concealed under the coat hanging off his shoulders. Iso dropped anchor and looked down at them, smiling tiredly.

“You could try a little harder to hide your surprise, you brats. You all have so little faith in your captain.”
