In this thread you will find a list of any open teaching positions around the schools. Administrators will post when a new position has opened up, and it is your responsibility to post in this thread if you're interested in taking over the role.

Professors are given moderator privileges and should be played with the utmost responsibility. Each professor should be a graduate of the school they are teaching at, should be over the age of thirty, and should follow the rules of their school (i.e. the appropriate nationalities, no Muggleborns without exceptional stories for Durmstrang, etc.). Professors are expected to keep their class lists up to date and to post in their classes regularly, as well as making new lessons as required.

For specific rules per school, please contact the respective School Admin: Olivia for Hogwarts, Lianne for Ilvermony, @Inga for Beauxbatons, and Dylan for Durmstrang.

When applying for a position, make sure to include a sample of how you'll start your first lesson.

Any position designated “OPEN” may be applied for with your own character. NPC names are supplied for reference in threads, etc. – if you would like to “adopt” that NPC, you may apply to do so. Please note that all canons must be applied for in the Free & Taken Canon Characters thread.

For Department Heads, they should be at least 30 years old; older is preferred, though younger may be considered on a case-by-case basis. They must have worked for the Ministry for at least five years IC (which is subject to sheet review) and it must be realistic.

Also available at the Ministry are Lead positions. For example: Lead Auror, Lead Hit Wizard, Lead Obliviator, Lead Witch Watcher, etc. Most Ministry offices will have two to three lead positions available. The minimum age requirement is 25 years old (though 30+ is preferred), with at least four years of experience in the field/office.

For St. Mungo's Head Healers, your character should be at least 30 years old; 35+ is preferred, though younger may be considered on a case-by-case basis. They must have completed their Healer training, must have worked for St. Mungo's for a reasonable amount of time (they can't have just become employed a year or two ago IC), and it must be realistic. Again, this is subject to sheet review.

If you're still interested, please PM the form below to the school admin affiliated with your character's country of residence (i.e. Hogwarts Admin for British Ministry). Positions will be awarded first to already approved characters and then can be temporarily reserved (for 6 months real time) for WIPs.

Please note that all positions are subject to IC activity. In order for your character to keep their current position, they must be posted IC regularly: at least once every 6 months for any IC post, and at least once every 9-12 months in their specific job IC. If these basic requirements are not met, your character may be dropped from their position. This is to avoid 'cluttering' the positions with inactive characters, thus freeing up availability for active characters.

I'd like to apply for the position of Magical Paradigms Professor at Ilvermorny, Arthur Cross, he's going to be 33, previously traveled the world studying a lot of why certain cultures practice magic the way they do. He's been trying to make a book for years at this point, almost ran out of money, and applied for this job to bulk up his finances and spread his knowledge to the young minds of today, since his book won't come out for many more years.


The newly minted Professor Cross walked about his classroom, making sure everything was perfect for his students imminent arrival. He'd set up a course syllabus on each of their desks, a quill and ink pot set, and a piece of paper. The reason for this was two-fold; he wanted his class to have a good first impression of him, and the other was that these were the most important utensils in his class, so there now was no excuse for not coming prepared for class. He'd opened up two of the windows to let a cool breeze through the the classroom, because he knew that a classroom full of teenage students could get-- odorous to say the least.

He reread the syllabus for the course, printed in a scrawling, spaced-out handwriting:

Magical Paradigms taught by Professor Arthur Cross Class Overview: In this class, you will learn about the four different main paradigms of magic, and the fifth one we use to determine which paradigm is appropriate for a situation. You will discover where various cultures fall under the Magical Paradigms, how that is relevant to how we communicate our different uses of magic today. You will embark on a journey of discovering how you interact with magic, and how it interacts with you. You will also find out through research, self-study and in-class discussions about how all of this is relevant to you, and why it will make you a better wizard in the future. Topics we will cover: This is a non-exhaustive list The Four (+ One) Magical Paradigms The Spirit Paradigm The Energy Paradigm The Psychological Paradigm The Information Paradigm The Meta Paradigm The Cultures of Magic The "What" of Magic The Spirit of Magic The Feeling of Magic The "Where" of Magic The Psychology of Magic

Grading Scheme: Grades will be determinate on the participation in class, by routine, standard examination, and by the breadth and depth of knowledge shown in written assignments and discussions. A: To earn a score of "A," a student has gone above and beyond all requirements and expectations. Accordingly, the student is present for all or nearly all lessons and shows distinct promise in the field. B: To earn a score of "B," a student's paper is well written and directly answers the questions asked. The student is present for nearly all lessons and participates actively. An "B" is recommended for any students wishing to pursue this subject at the W.E.N.D.I.G.O. level. C: To earn a score of "C," all questions are answered and reference the class they correspond with. Student shows understanding and comprehension of the subject matter and lesson at hand. In most cases, the student is present for most lessons. D: To earn a score of "D" means a student did not answer all questions asked or they were not answered correctly, and didn't reference the corresponding lesson (correctly). However, the student does show a mild understanding of the material covered. Likewise, the student shows some, albeit weak, comprehension of the subject matter. F: One does not earn a "F;" rather, they call it upon themself. No attributes of a Ilvermorny student are displayed. This student might as well be a troll.

He set the paper back down on the desk he took it from, and sauntered back around to his blackboard, writing "Welcome to Class" and "Question of the Day" on the board in powder-blue chalk. He then wrote the actual question he wanted answered, "Why would learning how someone interacts with magic be important to know?", he ended writing with a flourish, underlining the question twice.

He looked at the door, seeing students filed in front of it. He looked down at his pocket watch, confirming that it was indeed time to let the students in. He strode over to the door, put on a big smile, and unlocked the door. He swung the door open slowly, propping it open with a stop. He greeted each of the students at the door as they came in. Only when the last stragglers came in did he close the door, and walk back behind his desk.

"Well.. Welcome to Magical Paradigms!" he said, beaming to his class, "I'm Professor Arthur Cross, your teacher this year," he gestured around the room to his class, "nice to meet all of you." He shuffled left towards the blackboard, "I'd just like to note before we start, that all of you should have the utensils to start class on your desks, if you do not, let me know, and I can furnish you with more." he said with a grin, patting his bags of stationary goods. Cost him a bit at the store in Shackamaxon, but he decided it'd be worth it.

He cleared his throat, signaling the beginning of class, and pointed to the question, the tips of his fingers visibly dusted with powder blue dust, that he'd freshly written on the board. "Can anyone answer me this question?" The question was purposefully vague, and it would be individual for each student, highlighting the significance of understanding how magic is seen throughout the world being an important thing. He had faith that his class would be insightful, and that his first class would go without a hitch.

"I'll take several answers, to clarify."

September playtime is only a few weeks away, and we still have some positions to fill at all played schools. Each School Admin is in the process of updating the first page in terms of open positions - but if you would like your character to be considered for any of the student positions listed (even ones not specifically marked as "open"), we want to know! Feel free to suggest multiple positions for the same character(s), and to nominate other drivers' characters that you think would be a good fit for the role.

Please note, however, that this in no way guarantees that your character(s) will end up securing the position(s) you'd like them to have. Student positions are ultimately awarded based on multiple factors, including but not limited to driver activity, character activity, and IC suitability. The respective School Admin reserves the right to award or not award each of their school's positions. This may mean that some positions remain unfilled at the start of term, regardless of whether or not interest was expressed; while we don't particularly anticipate this happening, our goal is to fill these positions with the most suitable chars for the job. Any positions that remain unfilled at the start of term will be re-evaluated throughout the school year, and may be filled by new or existing characters as the School Admin sees fit.

I'm trying a bit of a different method this year, so please bear with me and note the following items below.

I tried to distribute the positions as equally as possible among as many different drivers as possible while also keeping the appointments as IC-appropriate as possible. As with every year, there may be some Prefect positions that go to non-Fifth-Years, but Head Boy/Girl will only be awarded to a Seventh Year. Some Houses have been appointed Co-Captains only for the time being, which may be per driver request or as a result of IC plausibility.

If a position is marked as "OPEN" with "{TBD}" as a placeholder, it is for one of the three following reasons:
1) there were no applicants
2) those who applied didn't have enough IC data for me to make a clear decision
3) those who applied were equally competitive/qualified
In any case, I'd like some more time to decide on the spots marked "OPEN", and will use September playtime to help further gauge activity. Any position marked "OPEN" will be considered for applications until it is filled.

Additionally, please note that a character's position may be removed at any time throughout the year. A position will not be removed unless there is a significant driver hiatus, the character is archived, IC events affect plausibility, or other significant concerns, and it will not be done without a discussion with the driver first.

hello, I would like to retcon Bérénice to the Botanique Professor position - I have discussed with @Olivia and will submit a sheet update  removing her Hypnotist sf.

Hello all! I had no intention of making this character for a long time (even though he's been swimming around in here for upwards of a year). I was PLANNING on NPCing him as a Dueling prof for plots this coming term, but decided "let's just give him a little backstory" and suddenly i wrote a whole character sheet for him. This is Adonis Hristofis (paternal line via Mel), a former dueling champion, historian, and author. He is part dwarven, standing at four-foot-five. Judge him by his size, do you? You shouldn't, as he is quite the silver-tongued, popular little sarcastic wizard. Former Klyk Vampira. Loves wine, women, and song as well as reading as much as his mind can handle.


There were no desks in this class. Instead, the floor was padded with thick, black mats, sometimes used for sitting, but more often used for practicing moves. The walls were lined with the same padding. There were no windows, just the door they entered in, causing an eerie effect of being trapped in the room that scared some, but to Adonis, this place felt like home. Barefoot, he walked along the mat., feeling it squish between his toes pleasantly. He waited in the very back of the room as the students filed in, some of them looking at the new room for the first time. Hell, it had only been one year in the new school and he had spruced up the space a great deal from the day before. There was a chalkboard on the wall furthest from the door. It said nothing on it except “take a seat.” Of course, there were no chairs so where to sit? 

Some students crossed their legs on the floor and some stood awkwardly. There was some small talk and chatter, people wondering where the professor was. He stood from his stool at the very back corner, once class time came, and magicked the doors closed with a []thud[/i]. Several students jumped, and he grinned. 

“Good afternoon, class. Welcome to the beginner’s lesson of Defense and Dueling.” He looked at some surprised faces and grinned wider. “Let me tell you a bit about me. I am a two-time National Champion in Greece, my home country, and silver medalist in the International Final competition of 1975.” He hated bringing out the big-ticket items at first glance—but how else might he gain respect?  “I have been Defense and Dueling Professor here at Durmstrang for 10 years, privately for a few years longer, and I am also a published author in the fields of history and strategy.” He waked to the front of the room. 

“In this class, we will explore not only the techniques of defense and dueling, but the history behind those techniques and appropriate strategies for winning. Should you be interested in more practice or simply interested in the art of dueling – please see me after class for information on the Durmstrang Interhouse Dueling Club, or the competitive house dueling teams.” 

He looked around. “Now, for those who can’t read—kindly take a seat on the mat, and let’s begin.” 

Hello all! I had no intention of making this character for a long time (even though he's been swimming around in here for upwards of a year). I was PLANNING on NPCing him as a Dueling prof for plots this coming term, but decided "let's just give him a little backstory" and suddenly i wrote a whole character sheet for him. This is Adonis Hristofis (paternal line via Mel), a former dueling champion, historian, and author. He is part dwarven, standing at four-foot-five. Judge him by his size, do you? You shouldn't, as he is quite the silver-tongued, popular little sarcastic wizard. Former Klyk Vampira. Loves wine, women, and song as well as reading as much as his mind can handle.


There were no desks in this class. Instead, the floor was padded with thick, black mats, sometimes used for sitting, but more often used for practicing moves. The walls were lined with the same padding. There were no windows, just the door they entered in, causing an eerie effect of being trapped in the room that scared some, but to Adonis, this place felt like home. Barefoot, he walked along the mat., feeling it squish between his toes pleasantly. He waited in the very back of the room as the students filed in, some of them looking at the new room for the first time. Hell, it had only been one year in the new school and he had spruced up the space a great deal from the day before. There was a chalkboard on the wall furthest from the door. Applying for the creative arts and literature professor position at Beauxbatons with Vivianne Courtois, 35, French pureblood witch from a wealthy background (rich app is up, too).
Since Amina Nasraoui has been deleted I figured the spot would be open.
Vivianne has studied arts and literature for a while and has the support of her cousin and ministry official Mylène Desroisiers (Dylan’s WIP).


Vivianne Courtois had been given some advice by people who meant well. However, she had ignored it. Why should she wear ‘normal’ clothes when she had fancy clothes in her wardrobe? For her first lesson the newly appointed professor chose a red dress and applied lipstick that matched the colour of the dress - anything else would feel just wrong.

She remembered her time at Beauxbatons quite well, she had been socialising a lot, learned a little, achieved average grades at school (good, even very good ones in subjects she liked, less good onces in subjects she had no interest in). She really thought she got the kids, though she knew little about the current generation of Beauxbatons students.

Her new classroom was… bland. There was a large desk for the professor - for her - and several smaller ones for the students. Vivianne stepped into the room, her high heels making clacking sounds on the wooden floor. She sat down behind her desk and stared into the empty room, imagining it filled with students who were eager to learn about arts and literature.

Realising how her heart was beating faster than usual now, Vivianne smiled nervously. She could do this. She had to do it. She had to succeed. Being cut off all the family’s money for good wasn’t an option. If she had to have a job to remain a future heiress then she would somehow deal with the situation. Working as a professor surely wasn’t that hard, right? They got plenty of time off of work anyway.

For the first lesson she had chosen something simple, Vivianne wanted to hear from her students if they preferred visual arts or literature and give an explanation why they did and an example of what they liked. That way, she hoped, she’d get to know her students and figure out how to set up future lessons.

The first students came in now and she gave her best charity event smile, maybe it was a little too much but she thought she’d better be too friendly than too sour now. After all, a good first impression was important. People made up their mind about others so quickly that there was literally no second to lose.
