[Background Information] Supporting New and Inquisitive Learners (S.N.A.I.L.)

Does your character enjoy teaching or mentoring their peers? Do you have a new First Year, or a student of any age who would benefit from receiving advice and guidance from an older student? If the answer to any of these is "yes", then you're in the right place. Welcome to S.N.A.I.L.!

In an effort to foster a greater sense of community and camaraderie among the student body by means of peer mentoring, the Hogwarts Staff created the program primarily to support incoming First Years, who will be matched with at least one Second-Fourth Year (preferably a Second Year) and at least one Fifth-Seventh Year. After further consideration, the staff decided to expand the program to include peer mentoring for all interested students. Upperclassmen in general are encouraged to sign up to be buddies to help mentor other interested underclassmen.

Students are by no means required to sign up as mentors (the staff understands that not everyone is interested in teaching/mentoring), but are strongly encouraged to do so to ensure that the incoming First Years have an adequate support system. In order to become a mentor, that student should be in relatively good standing with the school and/or have a genuine interest in working with their peers; they must also be in Second Year or above.

Non-First-Year students are not required to request a mentor, but students of all Years (including Seventh) are welcome to do so.

Each year, questionnaires will be mailed out to students with their school letters which - in addition to gauging interest in the program - ask about the students' various interests and hobbies in an effort to match mentors and mentees with common ground.

Why you should be considered for this role: While she might hide the fact that she is a bookworm, Mavis is not shy about loving to be right/smarter. Tutoring someone in something she knows is a way to do that.

Why you should be considered for this role: Pixie absolutely should not be considered for this role. She will teach bad habits, how to get to the kitchens for snacks and how to jump across the moving staircases. She will also support any little kid who needs help, encourage them to make friends and speak up in class and she understands what it's like to struggle in school because she's had to repeat a year. Actually she might be awesome with the right first year xD

Why you should be considered for this role: Wini loves helping others (usually in a nosy, bossy kind of way  ) As a driver, I think it would be fun to have a Wini minion whether that be someone just as nosy and lighthearted as Wini so she can teach them the top ten reasons to love Rupert Hartwood (after she finishes helping them with their homework of course) or someone who avoids her like the plague despite her repeated attempts to to 'help' them haha

Why you should be considered for this role: Jacq has a long track record of being a diligent student, has served as Prefect for the past two years, and is now Head Girl. She takes all of her tasks and responsibilities very seriously; in part, she sees this as an extension of her responsibility to make herself available to and support her peers. Additionally, however, she does genuinely enjoy offering support and advice. While she may be more on the quiet side, she is by no means shy or meek and has a strong moral compass.

Character you'd like to mentor: no preference
Why you should be considered for this role: Though more on the reserved side in her early school years, Aase is warm and friendly; especially after being made Prefect and making her House Quidditch team last term, her confidence has grown in leaps and bounds. She's always been a nurturing and supportive type, but up until the past year or two had kept mostly to her smaller circle of friends. This year, she's feeling emboldened to take a more active role in helping her peers.
