“Muggle sports, fitness, Quidditch,”, "Mhmm," Isaac nodded, and while he believed that was what she had originally meant, he liked his conclusions a hell of a lot more. He doubted she actually looked at those kinds of things, she didn't seem the type, but the teenager had seen his fair share. Surprisingly, Allison was the most interested in them anytime they surfaced among the group, not that Isaac had ever complained about that.

"Wait, what," Isaac let his mind wander, and his thoughts gather on the fringe, but before he knew it, Magnolia was moving toward him. The back of her hand on his forehead felt cold against what was probably a fever. He was legitimately sick (unlike her...) so he wasn't surprised at the cold. He was surprised at the physical interaction, especially given what they had been discussing, and it made him smile. Most girls (most squares) would have shied away after such a topic, but not Magnolia; she was emboldened even. It was fun.

"Nothing wrong with thinking about it," He offered because Isaac wasn't the sort to shy away either. Instead, he laughed, and even though it came out halfway like a cough, the smile reached his dark eyes. "So, have you got any subscriptions to those types of mags, then?" Isaac made sure to add extra emphasis on the word she had been using.

Magnolia almost immediately pulled her hand away at his comment, not sure what he meant by it but feeling like she ought to be somewhere between offended and proud he would say it the way he had. “Yeah, nothing wrong with it if you’re a boy,” she noted pointedly, well aware of the differences between how she might have perceived had it been a conversation she had initiated. Magnolia wasn’t much of an expert on the topic but for a moment it made her feel smart and aware of what was going on outside of her world of pink, glitter, and fluff. “But no,” she shook her head, “I’m guessing you do? Ugh, of course, you do,” she rolled her eyes, the assumption feeling too natural on her lips to not be the truth. Then again, Magnolia had grown much too comfortable with judging Isaac and his intentions.

“I’d never date a guy that owned them,” she added. It was a disconnected thought, an additive to the internal battle she was having over whether she would ever own one or if she’d be okay with someone in her life owning one. She was not. But of course, the way in which she spoke only made it sound like she was listing just another reason as to why she would never go out with him. She was not interested (but if she was and if he owned them, Magnolia could be convinced to look the other way).

“Do boys ever think about anything other than getting laid and Quidditch?” she asked, mostly as a joke but a very judgmental one. “But really, you feel pretty hot, don’t you think you ought to take something for it?” she asked again. Regardless of all of the extra conversation they were having, he was starting to look a little worse than he had in the beginning. And she did care (well sort of) about his health, too. In a weirdly infatuated and twisted sort of way.

“Yeah, nothing wrong with it if you’re a boy,” The double standard of such things was not lost on the wizard. He knew it was funny when he talked about it, but their classmates would have a field day with the gossip if she were open about it. It was unfortunate, but it was just the way it was, and Isaac nodded. While he might not have felt the same way, he understood her meaning. "Magnolia, do I look like a magazine subscription kind of bloke to you?" With an eyebrow raised, Isaac looked at her smugly. Getting magazine subscriptions was costly and not something Isaac was interested in, regardless of the subject matter. If he got his hands on one of those types of magazines, he surely didn't pay for it.

"That is such a square thing to say," He informed her; the idea that she wouldn't date someone because they happened to enjoy porn was laughable to Isaac. Did she understand what every teenage boy was like? They were all little perverts in one way or another, it was inescapable, but it wasn't something to be ashamed of (most of the time). Isaac wouldn't pretend like he didn't have a healthy sexual curiosity, and he found it silly that she would. "No, not really," He answered her question shortly. What else was there besides Quidditch and getting laid? Though he didn't hate hearing her talk about it, Isaac shook his head.

"I knew you thought I was hot," He smirked, rolling over a little to face her more than before and finding his head on the pillow to be about the most comfortable thing on Planet Earth at the moment. He fought back a yawn, which of course, turned into another cough, and then swallowed. "Will you read one of the articles out loud?" Isaac asked, putting one hand under his face on the pillow and giving her a pleading look.

“Oh I wouldn’t judge you if you were,” she said but the smile on her face revealed otherwise, “but how would I know? I don’t know anything about you, you could be a total tea and biscuits sort of bloke and I’d never guess it,” she added, flipping the page of the magazine to the next page. But she did sort of secretly hope that he was not that kind of guy because she’d never let him live it down if he had the hobbies of a grandma. It was way too early and probably a bad idea but the girl did have her own guesses about the sort of person she thought he was, or better yet, the sort of person she wanted him to turn out to be. Too cool for everyone else on the outside, sweet and looking for love on the inside, the embodiment of the Gryffindor teenager’s favorite literary trope. He had his sweet moments, like these, and even if he was sort of still being a jerk most of the time his insults were growing on her. She might have been a little infatuated, just a tiny bit.

“It’s not!” she insisted, making a face of suspicion and wondering if maybe she had the wrong answer. It was times like this, when they disagreed, that she wondered if he’d like her better if she were edgier or more like, well, Allison and Fiora. But it was a thought she didn’t like to think about for too long because then it opened the more important question of how she felt about Isaac. And Magnolia still wanted to pretend that she felt nothing. “Well I mean like you know, I wouldn’t want to see them,” she tried again, feeling a little stupid for thinking she had to rearrange her words to get a better response from him. She was an opinionated girl; she never felt the need to do this around her best friends so why around this boy she (supposedly) didn’t care about at all?

“Sorry Isaac, I meant you’re feverish, you’re not my type at all,” she said as seriously as she could, though of course it was the sort of thing she’d said to a boy that was exactly her type and Isaac checked all of the boxes. This interest in him only furthered when he asked her to read something from the magazine. Magnolia looked at him for a moment but had an extremely hard time telling him no when he looked equal parts vulnerable and attractive at the same time. “Alright,” she said finally, leaning back against the pillow as well as she propped her knees up to rest the magazine against them. “Oh, what about this one? Rupert Hartwood on Love, Relationships, and the Power of Music,” she offered, but before he had a chance to choose, she started to read.

"Have you seen one before?" Isaac couldn't help but ask when she brought it up, and his heart beat faster just thinking about it, or maybe that was the fever? Either way, he watched her closely as he waited for her to answer. Would she tell him the truth if she had? He wondered. When she told him he wasn't her type, he scrunched his face at her, not believing it for a second, but she kept telling him things like this, so maybe he should have? It wasn't like he was trying to date her or anything, so he saw no harm in continuing to flirt with her even if she was as disinterested as she claimed to be. That was another one of those double standards, he supposed, but whatever, he was still going to do it.

For a second, he thought she would refuse, and he would have to pout, but when she laid down against the pillow, the teenager smiled quietly. Laying next to her like this was strange; they weren't best friends, they weren't together, but at the same time, it was oddly comforting. Isaac could smell her shampoo, and he could feel the bed move ever so slightly anytime she took a breath. He should have been looking at the pages of her magazine, but he couldn't bring his brown eyes from her face. From the perfect skin, and the stupid (cute) earrings she was wearing, and the way her lips moved when she spoke...

"Wait, no," Fuck he hadn't been paying enough attention, and now he was going to have to listen to some dumb story about Ruper t-freaking-Hartwood. He groaned dramatically, loud enough that she would hear, but she kept reading from the article, and Isaac let his eyes close as he half-listened. "Hartwood's music is shite," Isaac said from behind closed eyes when the article finally came to an end. "What else is in there?" He asked; for the first time all day, his head wasn't pounding, and he didn't want it to stop; Isaac wanted her to keep reading, and he hoped that she would without making him beg.

“No,” she said as firmly as she could manage, giving him a cold look to emphasize that she, Magnolia Hawkins, would never in a million years ever look at a girly mag because yuck, she did not want to see that. She had read the equivalent of what was in those magazines in some novels she hid in her bookshelf at home but he had not asked that and she was not about to volunteer that information. Plus it was much nicer when she could imagine it being the guys she actually found attractive rather than some random average looking person’s naughty bits. The thought alone was disgusting, so much so that it made her flinch just a bit.

Rupert Hartwood on the other hand, she’d pay for a magazine with him in it, she thought to herself and smiled, finding that reading the article was a nice way to wipe away those weird images she had invented in her head only moments earlier. Isaac was such a strange boy, going from one extreme to the other, and she wondered if he being seriously sick had anything to do with it. Magnolia still did not feel one-hundred percent okay but at least it was easy to ignore her symptoms, especially when this boy was sitting beside her. She’d probably remember later how terrible she had felt and have to return the next day again but she wasn’t in a rush to go back to class anyway. Magnolia figured she could stand to miss another day of Muggle Studies.

Her smile only widened at his reaction but once she started reading, Magnolia was invested in finishing the article and so she did, regardless of his protests. She turned to look at him, very aware of how close she was to him but trying hard to pretend she didn’t notice. “You take that back, his music is amazing, he’s not at the top of the charts just because of his good looks you know,” she explained but her voice was considerably lower than it usually was. It was obvious that he wasn’t feeling well and she felt bad about it. “Uh,” she looked back at the magazine flipping through it. “Oh this one, Find the One…Your Dream Wizard that Is!” she said, smiling as she started to read. “

Isaac knew that she was rebuffing everything he said about Rupert Hartwood, and on a typical day, he would have kept bickering with her about the bloke, but today he didn't have the energy. Instead of saying something sarcastic back or making fun of her for being in love with Hartwood like every other witch her age, Isaac just smirked. With his eyes closed and a small on his face, he shook his head against her pillow in a silent version of 'nuh-uh'. He felt exhausted, especially now that the pounding in between his eyes had started to calm down a little, and even when he felt her moving on the bed, Isaac barely shifted.

Magnolia began to read the next story, and Isaac half-listened to it from where he was lying. Her voice was soft, quiet even, and he appreciated the volume. Falling asleep hadn't been his plan originally; he just meant to bother her until the nurse came around and gave him something for the sickness. Still, now, with his head on her pillow and her reading from her Witchy magazine, it was unavoidable. The sick teenager was powerless to stop it, and soon enough, he was fast asleep next to her.

By the end of the article, the girl had plenty of thoughts, and curious to know all the silly things she knew he’d say in return she turned to him, only to find that he was…asleep? “Isaac..?” she started softly, wondering if he was playing a trick on her but soon noticed that his breath had evened out, he was more relaxed and incredibly quiet. As much as she wanted to shove him and wake him up, she sat perfectly still, smiling to herself instead and realizing how incredibly cute he was sitting next to her and fast asleep. And so she let him be, flipping through the magazine some more even though this was her third time that month looking at it.

The nurse would probably eventually come looking for them and have all sorts of thoughts about their close proximity but Magnolia couldn’t be bothered to care, not when this little scene, one she’d be sure to keep to herself, felt so perfect on its own. Taking a small breath, she leaned against him, feeling a little sleepy herself but willing to fight it just a little longer so that he’d get some rest. He was annoying and mean to her but at the same time, Magnolia wanted him to get better.

And with that thought she let her imagination run a little while, thinking of more reasons as to why maybe she did like Isaac as a little bit more than a friend.
