I did not expect to come back to this. xD

But anyway: wow. Very awesome ideas. However, I have nothing to contribute at the moment. Just wanted to give a thumbs up and such.

And as for the anti-pureblood sentiment, I'm offering the Emersons as part of this political/class schism. It's such a prime moment for them take revenge on all the other pureblood families they've been in conflict with all these generations.

Ohh I better hurry and finish Joel then. He would love to take revenge! xD

There were a lot of great ideas here, and I'm super excited for these plots to unfurl.

Just some thoughts/ideas to add to the mix:

maybe I've just read and watched too many zombie/fantasy junk, but perhaps the disease could have been a replication of a really old curse made not only with just a crazy potion, but maybe involved runic spells or some serious blood magic. So maybe the cure could involve needing the blood of pureblood wizards as part of its ingredients. As for Healers, they'd probably have a record of the antidote, but because of blood magic involved, they'd have to be careful developing it since it's rather shady territory.

Since all purebloods are somehow related (at least heavily implied in the canon), they'd all have the cursemaker's blood in them, so maybe they quickly develop an immunity and become well. Meanwhile, half-bloods and muggle-borns are stricken with the disease much longer. In a way, this would seem like the Craze DE is finishing the task his master would have done if hadn't been killed. And this would fuel more of the pureblood resentment since they'd get well sooner while others didn't. As for Elementals, since they're more knowledgeable about runic and blood magic, they can probably counter it easily, or simply morph to purge the curse out of their system.

...anyway, I'm done being crazy. >>

Okay.... I tried to get things sorted out in my head... but we're having so many ideas floating around and we need some decisions.

Are we having more than one bad guy?

Even if we only have one bad guy we could still have several people playing NPCs who spread the plague. They don't necessarily need to know what they are doing in order to be effective.

We all seem agreed the illness doesn't affect elementals.

As for the pureblood theory - I don't think that really works as there are also tons of halfbloods descended from purebloods so I don't think that logic is very sound... as much as I like runic spells.

Questions we need to answer:

- how fast does the disease spread.

- is there already a cure and the problem is in managing it?

- is this a new strain of a known disease?

- what are the symptopms? So we all play them the same way when the time comes.

I think we need more than one person actually doing the infecting, though we can still have just one bad guy. Imagine if twenty people want to be "initially" infected - that's a heck of a lot to dump on poor Morrigan if she's got twenty excited people all wanting a post from her NPC!

Disease spread - I like the idea of it being spread by physical contact or at least closeness rather than being airborne. If it's purely airborne then everyone will get it just from being in the room. The same virulence of a standard cold virus should be reasonable I think. That would also take two or three days for the first people to show up, and of course others can get it from that.

A cure - I would say they have a cure for one strain, but it isn't particularly effective and needs to be worked on. This gives those playing healers the chance to come up with something interesting and play out finding a cure if they want to.

New strain - see above. I am wondering about this as a disease we can work from. Little is known about it so we can add other symptoms. Personally I like the idea of coughing up something in the advanced stages, but something funny like glitter or daisies. Imagine instilliing a fear of glitter or daisies into the wizarding community! Plus I would also love to see one of the symptoms as temporary loss or weakening of magical ability. Imagine the panic! Everytime someone gets a spell wrong they don't know if its normal or if they're coming down with the disease!

symptoms - see above. Plus whatever else we can think of! :D

Me four!

Other symptom: I still like the idea of a not normal colored patch or rash.  Not something that would last long though.  Something that would go away on its own in a day or so as the disease spread out within their body.  Maybe a bright sunny yellow...That would freak the hell out of Cori for sure.  ;D

I think he should have intentionally infected several others before the event. long enough for them to become infectious, but not long enough to show symptoms. like maybe he was disguised, helping people out of carriages or something...

or he infected a few pure bloods he is acquainted with ahead of time that he knows will be going, convinced they'll be immune just as he's convinced he'll be immune, but still carriers.

for the poison/disease thing, maybe those who are infected could develop visible 'magical' symptoms... maybe like a distinct rash purple and blue in color orr grows some weird thing on their body like antlers or a tail orr something like that with a more 'magical' touch to it

an idea i had, since diseases tend to move in stages....

first they're dizzy. this lasts for about an hour or two, depending on the person. accompanied by noises seeming either too loud, or too quiet.

than, the whites of their eyes turn bright yellow-green and they start leaking black tears.

shortly after this, maybe an hour or so...fever sets in, along with a caugh... as they gradualy get little red welts all over their body...

several more hours later, they begin caughing up the same stuff they're crying.... start feeling incredibly weak, lathargic, like they have weights tied to their limbs.

12-18 hours after the dizzy spells set in.... Death.

Freaky. O.o
I keep imagining glowing people. >>

I just quoted all the sugestions for symptoms i could find, and avoided repeats

One thing that's been in my mind regarding the elementals being immune... Like... Can they still carry it? Immune to effects but can still be transmitters? This makes sense to me because I've seen it happen. I've been to a gaming group where someone didn't actually "have" a cold (no signs, hadn't been sick recently) but someone sitting by her got sick. *shrugs* With a huge event going on, it'd be even easier to get someone sick.
so let's set the world on fire

Makes sense. Although if they haven't morphed yet (either because they're not quite there skill wise or some other reason), does it still have a purging effect?
